Hilda Lagacé Obituary

It is with great sadness that Rose’s family announces her passing Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 74 years. Rose was born Wednesday, January 27, 1937, at the Flin Flon General Hospital, Flin Flon, Manitoba to Annabella and James Jewels. Rose’s family moved to The Pas when she was a young girl. There she met and married the love of her life George. One of Rose’s first jobs was alongside her sisters at Clean Rite Cleaners, then the trio eventually moved on to Rice’s Bakery, where Rose was known best for her smile that greeted you when you walked in. Once Rice’s Bakery closed, Rose went to work for Karen Mathieu’s at the MBCI Cafeteria until 1983. After taking a short break, Rose went on to work in the Produce Department at A&B Grocers for Anne and Bob Jackson where she stayed until she retired in 1988. Once she retired, Rose enjoyed looking after her grandchildren, playing board games, baking, making snowmen and even sliding down the snow hills at the farm. Rose also enjoyed her afternoons with her sisters Flo and Ann; shopping and stopping for coffee at Tim Hortons. They became known as the “Trio Sisters” to many. Rose leaves to mourn, sons Gordon Robert (Fay), Gary (Maria); daughter Karen (Mark) Howell; brothers and sisters Richard Jewels (Winnipeg), Joseph (Shirley) Jewels (OCN), Florence Fourre (Charlie Lavallee), Annabelle (Albert) Lafontaine, Mabel Rall, Verna Ranville all of The Pas; Caroline McAuley (Alberta), Mary Lombardo (Florida); grandchildren and great grandchildren Ryan, Naithan, Fawn, Gage, Taylor, Marno, Roberta (Frank), Jay, Brendan, Julie, Justin, Dawson and Alexis; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband George Lagacé 2011; mother Annabella Jewels 1988; father James Jewels 1981; brother James Jr. 1996; father-in-law Narcisse Lagacé 1955; mother-in-law Blanche Lagacé 1993; brothers-in-law Joe Lagacé 2004, Arthur Lagacé 2010; sisters-in-law Irene Heintz 1964, Alice Bate 1984 and Therese Libbrecht in 2008. In keeping with Rose’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pas Health Complex Foundation, Inc., Memorial Fund, Palliative Care Division, Box 541, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4 or CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E OV9, would be appreciated by Rose’s family.
