Ivan John Shewchuk

<p> Ivan John Shewchuk was born Sunday, August 20, 1944 at home, on the family farm near MacNutt, SK to Mike and Nonie Shewchuk. Ivan attended Clova School and Castleavery School. In 1957 his parents bought him an accordion which he learned to play by ear. He learned some ethnic tunes and other favorites.</p><p> At age 15 while coming home from school, Ivan decided to stop in the sawmill to visit his dad (about ¼ mile from his house). As he was approaching the sawmill a hard knot was hurled from the mill and hit Ivan in the left temple. Mike ran to the house and announced that Ivan was dead, then took the car and drove Ivan to Roblin Hospital. From there he ended up in the Regina Hospital where he was unconscious for 3 weeks and in the hospital for 11 weeks. That is when Ivan lost his speech and his ability to communicate by writing. </p><p> Prior to his accident Ivan was active in the 4H group and was very proud of his calf that won 1st prize at the Dauphin Fair. Ivan enjoyed working with his hands and made different things out of wood like his dad. Later the Family moved to Carrot Valley in The Pas where Ivan lived at home until moving to Pine View Lodge. After moving to Pine View Ivan started working at A&amp;W and Sam Waller Museum doing custodial duties along with his care workers. Ivan attended and worked at The Workplace for many years. Ivan had care workers, the first of which was Barbara Veitch (the Veitch family became like a second family to Ivan). Care Workers Cathy Lipscomb, Cindy Kolisnyk, Marlene Campbell and Sean Kirkness all played an important part in Ivan’s well-being. </p><p> Ivan loved his family very much. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces.</p><p> Ivan moved into St. Paul’s residence in March, 2009 where he resided until his passing, with family by his side, Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the age of 71 years.</p><p> Ivan was predeceased by infant sister Mary and infant brother Edward; parents Mike and Nonie; and nephew Glen Shewchuk. </p><p> Ivan is survived by sister Teen (Ted) Hlady; nieces and nephews Teresa (Byran) Pease, Kathy (Jared), Michael (Chantell) and Brooke, Chris; Greg (Shelley) Hlady, Jordan, Ashton, Tanner and Riley; Dave (Lynne) Hlady, Hilary and Zoe; Adele (Steve), Ryan and Izzy, Andrew (Celeste), Laisha (Jeff); brother Daniel (Hazel) Shewchuk; nieces and nephews, Amber (David) Johanson, Lorne, Peter, Anna and Jenna; Carmen (Miles) Guerts, Talia, Porter and Makae; Lance Shewchuk , Leah (Rod) Cohoon, Clara and Kelsie. brother Elias (Nancy) Shewchuk; nieces and nephews Joel (Amy) Shewchuk, Ethan, Eli and Zoe; Tim Shewchuk and Debbie Shewchuk.</p><p>Prayers and visitation were held Monday, December 21, 2015, 7:00 pm, at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, with Father Robert Laroche presiding.</p><p>The funeral service was held Tuesday, December 22, 2015, 10:00 am, at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, with James Hemauer presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Scripture reading was proclaimed by Daniel Shewchuk and the eulogy was delivered by Elias Shewchuk.</p><p> Following interment prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba a reception was held for family and friends at the Guy Hall.</p><p>Pallbearers were Elias Shewchuk, Daniel Shewchuk, Byran Pease, Ted Hlady, Miles Guerts, Tim Shewchuk.</p><p>If friends so desire, donations to St. Paul’s Residence Equity Fund, c/o Activities, Box 240, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4, would be appreciated by Ivan’s family.</p><p><br></p>
