James Beck

James Beck, age 65, a longtime resident of The Pas, Manitoba, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 22, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba with his family at his bedside. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Monday, April 22, 1946 to Fred and Grace Beck. James moved to The Pas as a child and completed all his education at the Red Brick School, M.B.C.I and Keewatin Community College. Through out his life James worked at a few jobs; Liquor Control Commission, Churchill Forest Industry, Weston Bread, Court Reporter and Correctional Officer at The Pas Correctional Institute this was the job he truly enjoyed. He was very sad when his health would no longer permit him to work. James had a great sense of humour, even though his health deteriorated, his sense of humor never did. He was an avid reader, loved doing Sudoku and spending time at the cottage. Jim had a great love and a soft spot in his heart for all animals, especially his dogs. James is survived by his wife Bev; sons Kurt (Jerilyn) Beck, Roy Beck; grandchildren Jeseca, Dakota, Macy, Logan, James, Conor and Leanne; sisters Vienna Ford (Bob Kowalchuk), Gladys Houtz, Leanne (Myron) Zatorsky, Lori Obie (John Taddeo); brother Doug (Eileen) Beck; stepmother Louise Blouin; mother-in-law and father-in-law Richard and Ellen Messner; sister-in-law Myrna (Bob) Shineton; brothers-in-law Bradley Messner, Ashley (Janice) Messner; sister-in-law Celeste (Blaine) Lagimodiere; and many nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his mother Grace Blouin; father Fred Beck; step-father Fern Blouin; step-mother Margaret Beck; brother-in-law Tom Houtz; sister-in-law Bev Messner; niece Heidi Fouillard. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Jim’s life was held Friday, December 30, 2011, at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba with James Hemauer presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Memories of the heart were shared by Jennifer Potvin. Following the service, family and friends gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall for a time of fellowship and refreshment. If friends so desire, donations to The Pas Health Complex Foundation, Inc., Memorial Fund, Emergency Room Department, Box 541, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4, would be appreciated by Jim’s family.
