James Goodridge Obituary

With sorrow, Jim’s family announce his sudden passing on Monday, October 13, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 74 years. Jim was born at the end of the “Dirty Thirties” in Regina, Saskatchewan, Tuesday, December 5, 1939. He was the first child of Anna and Harold Goodridge. His parents moved the family to Winnipeg a few years later where Jim grew up and completed his primary and secondary education at St. James Collegiate. He played hockey for the Woodhaven Woodticks and coincidentally their team colors were that of the Boston Bruins. He also made the Senior Basketball team, the St. James Jimmy’s. Jim was the first Goodridge to receive a university degree. He completed his Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of North Dakota. While in university, he spent summers in The Pas as a life guard at the Winton Pool by the river and once out of college he worked and coached football at St. James Collegiate before settling in The Pas in 1966. Jim started his career with Keewatin Community college as a physical education teacher and over time moved to management with several title changes over his career, ending with Director of Planning in 1996. Jim was an avid curler and golfer. He umpired baseball and played hockey with the Old Timers and loved watching Hockey Night in Canada especially those games where his “Boston Bruins” were playing, at which time he would dress up in his Bruin’s regalia right down to his underwear. He was a member of the Legion and held executive positions in the Kinsmen, the curling club and the golf club. Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years, Judy; children Jeff (Nancy) Goodridge, Jill (Doug) Wilkinson, Andi Seymour, Rikki Nicol; brothers Don (Flora) Goodridge, Bob (Susan) Goodridge; sister Joyce (Doug) Wilding; grandchildren Ryan, Nicolette, David, Christopher, Jessica, Josephine and Vincent. Jim was predeceased by his parents Anna and Harold Goodridge; uncle Stanley (Gwen) Goodridge; aunt Dorothy Goodridge. In keeping with family wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Jim’s life was held Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 1:30 pm at the Westminster United Church, The Pas, with Joan Prokopow presiding. Music ministry was provided by Valerie Beckingham. Memories of the heart were shared by Jill Wilkinson and Terry Needham. If friends so desire, donations to The Pas Health Complex Foundation, Inc., Memorial Fund, Box 541, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K6, would be appreciated by Jim’s family.
