Jerry Cook Obituary

There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without, but have to let go. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Jerry David Cook, Thursday, November 25th, 2010 at the St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba with his nephew Tom at his side. Jerry was born August 2, 1948 to Mary Sara and Edward Thomas Cook in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan at the Holy Family Hospital. He was the youngest of six children. At birth he lived in the countryside just north of Prince Albert near a little town named Allingly. From there the family moved to various places including Lynn Lake, Sherridon, Cranberry Portage, Cold Lake, just to name a few. Jerry lived across the country, wherever his jobs took him but his real home was at Kisseynew Lake. This he referred to as his healing home. Jerry’s passion for traveling followed him throughout his life. He was always eager to go anywhere and work. He was a hard worker all his life and had many life experiences where if he was asked a question he was quick to give a detailed answer because of the knowledge he had. Jerry’s choice of occupation was being a heavy equipment operator driving those big cat machines. He had the vast experience of many jobs from truck haul, logger, trapper, prospector, commissioner, surveyor, miner, driller, and he excelled at all of them. His favourite job, and the one he was best at, was being a grandpa, dad, and friend. He was known as “Uncle” to everybody. While visiting in Prince Albert some acquaintances would refer to him as “Moshoom” or “Papa”. He said, “I think I will go back to Manitoba where I am younger because over there everybody calls me Uncle.” Jerry took great pride in being a grandpa, his seven grandchildren have been blessed so greatly by the love their papa gave them. They will never forget his love for them. They meant the world to him and he would have done anything for them and before he passed they were his concern. For all of you who knew Jerry you knew that he was a very easy going kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back and the kind of guy that would always make you laugh. It took a lot to upset him because he believed that life was too precious to dwell on the negative and he would rather just walk away and forgive. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Lori Cook (Barry); his seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Keely, Charles, Danika, Naiomi, Aden, and Zoe Cook. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Sayies; and brother Jim Cook (Sylvia), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father, sisters, Lyna and Lillian, and brother, Stanley Cook. * * * * * Active Pallbearers: Joey Cook, Stan Cook, Derek Moose, Michael Moose, Jeff Brightnose, Justin Brightnose, Danny Danielson, Alfred Brightnose, David Baker, Daniel Michelle, Wilfred Cook, Dale Brightnose.
