John Johanson THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

John Johanson

John Martin (Bud) Johanson passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at St. Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, at the age of 84 years. The youngest of 5 children, Bud was born to the late Johan and Beatrice Johanson August 26, 1929 at home in The Pas, Manitoba. Bud graduated Grade 12 from the Annex and Red Brick School in The Pas. Since a young lad, Bud loved the outdoors. He grew up hunting, trapping and fishing with friends and his older brother, Ed. His entire working career of 37 ½ years was spent as a warehouse man and costing clerk at Western Grocers in The Pas. He was very detailed when it came to numbers and math and carried this on as he kept the books for the Johanson market garden at the homestead at Clearwater Lake. Bud will be remembered by many for his green thumb and all the vegetables he grew, sold, and gave away while spending many hours in the garden. Any leftover vegetables always found their way to the seniors homes and fall suppers in The Pas. His tomato seedlings –hundreds every year– always produced the earliest and juiciest tomatoes in the area. He was the happiest when in the garden. Later in life, he enjoyed watching TV while overlooking the family cottage and Pioneer Bay at Clearwater Lake from his recliner in the “loft”. Bud will be remembered fondly as the strong, quiet brother and Uncle who was always there when you needed him. Bud leaves to mourn his sister, Dorothy LeGuilloux, of Kelowna BC; his nephew Don Johanson and niece-in-law Darby of Clearwater Lake; numerous nephews and nieces of BC and Ontario; and his favorite four legged companion, Rhea. Bud was predeceased by his parents Johan and Beatrice Johanson; brother Ed Johanson of The Pas; and sisters Thelma Walker of Windsor Ontario and Aileen Young of Penticton BC. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a family interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Bud's memory may be made to The Pas Health Complex Foundation Inc., Box 541 The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K6, would be appreciated by his family.
