Jonas was born Monday, May 14, 1956 in The Pas, Manitoba. He lived most of his life in Moose Lake, Manitoba. Jonas was united in marriage to Carol Buck, October 22, 1975. They were happily married for 37 years. Together they were blessed with four children. In his earlier years, Jonas worked various jobs. He worked for Moose Lake Loggers for numerous years, carpentry and mechanical work. He was a band councilor for Mosakahiken Cree Nation for many years until his illness. Jonas was instrumental in achieving the Moose Lake Radio Station. He also enjoyed the traditional pursuits of hunting and trapping. In his early years, Jonas played hockey for the local team. His hobbies included teaching traditional and sharing traditional knowledge as Sundance Chief, with his nephew Roland (Gayle) Buck. He also enjoyed playing radio bingo, doing crossword puzzles, visiting friends and family, travelling and playing guitar, singing gospel songs, joking around with whomever he met and always had a smile on his face. He especially loved to tease Beverly Blacksmith, Margaret Patchenose and Delbert Grey and also loved his morning tea with his daughter-in-law, Mary Ann. During the summer months, Jonas loved watching his grandchildren and chapans playing and also liked driving his scooter during the summer. His favorite TV show was “The Price Is Right” and mostly spending time with family, friends, children and grandchildren. He loved to spend time with his sister Flora Jean and his nieces Emma Dorian and Noreen Tobacco. Jonas passed away peacefully with his wife Carol, his children and his sister Flora Jean, by his bedside, in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 13, 2013, at his home in Moose Lake, Manitoba, at the age of 56 years. Jonas is survived by his wife Carol; children William (Ronalda) Grey, Rueben (Mary Ann) Grey, Janet (Fern) Monias; stepdaughter June (Archie) Grey; adopted son Bobby Brightnose; grandchildren Austin (Amanda), Larissa, William Jr., Tian, Lakisha, Alicia, Tanisha, Falisha, Fernandez, Janisha, Dwayne Jr. (Loni), Jocelyn, Jared, Susan Dorian; chapan Harmony Sanderson; and others too numerous to mention. Jonas is also survived by his sisters Irma (Joseph), Flora Jean (Ray), Ila (Norman), Flora (Lester); brothers Abel (Marjorie), Samuel (Elizabeth), Morris; mother-in-law Amelia Buck; sisters-in-law Susan (James), Emma (Joe), Maria, Beverly (Harvey), Priscilla (Purvis), Virginia, Verna; brothers-in-law Mack, Clifford, James (Donna); godchildren Taralynn Blacksmith, Audrina Ducharme-Saunders, Rosalie Lavallee, Gina Wilson, Tammy McNabb, Jonah Tobacco, Danielle Easter, Riley Buck, Loretta Lynn Martin, Kimberly Wilson; special friends Ralph Nasekapow Sr., Steve Campbell Sr., Joey Sinclair, Joseph Lambert, Hazel Martin, Sandra Sanderson. Jonas was predeceased by son Jonas Brian Grey Jr., grandson Micheal William Grey; parents Bert and Rachel Grey; brothers Roddy, Percy, Zaccheaus, Frederick, Joseph; father-in-law John Buck Jr.; brother and sister-in-law Ralph (Melvina) Buck; grandparents John and Flora Martin, Frederick and Jean; aunties Isabella Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Mary Beardy, Ila, Lorna, Caroline, Cecilia, Betsy; uncles Abel, Archie, Andrew; godchild Clayton Tobacco.
