We would like to announce the tragic passing of our beloved Joseph James Alphonse Carriere. Jim passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, age 46 years. Jim was born Thursday, December 5, 1963 at St. Anthony’s General Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba. He was the youngest of seven brothers and four sisters. Baby Jim or Jim-Bob, as he was known to family always had a joke and a smile for everyone. Jim was a very happy person and had an infectious effect on his many friends. Jim will be sorely missed by his family, friends and co-workers. Jim always gave his sons what they needed, no matter how extravagant. He was proud of his boys and enjoyed spending quality time with his sons, brothers, sisters, family, friends and most of all, his mother. Jim was educated in The Pas and graduated from Margaret Barbour Collegiate in 1983. Over the years he obtained various slot technician training. Jim’s favorite pastime was playing cards, croquet and board games. He enjoyed numerous sports and enjoyed his hockey games. He loved to do crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He enjoyed trips to the trap-line with his brother Walter and was starting to take an interest in hunting and fishing. Jim is survived by his mother Sarah Carriere; brothers and sisters Joseph Carriere (Lucy), Margaret Villeneuve (Frank), Raymond Carriere (Dianne), William Carriere, Walter Carriere, Rosalie Carriere (David), Emile Carriere, Marlene Bignell (Tom), Jeannie Carriere and Micheal Fenner; his sons Derrick, Brendan, and Bradley Carriere; his god children Victor Campbell, Jewel Sayese and Faith Carriere and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Jim was predeceased by his first wife Sonia Carriere (Ross); father Alphonse Carriere; grandparents Lionel and Agnes Carriere, Cyril and Sylvia Grymonprez; infant brother and two infant sisters; brother-in-law William Stonechild; mother-in-law Doreen Ross and numerous aunts, uncles and relatives. The wake service for Jim was held Friday, March 26, 2010, 8:00 pm at the Margaret Henderson Parish Hall, Church of Redeemer, Big Eddy, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba with Rev. Lydia Constant-Clark presiding. A mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, March 27, 2010, 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba, with Rev. Bill Stang, O.M.I. presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg and Mike Jebb, Jr.. A tribute poem was shared by Tanya Carriere and memories of the heart were shared by James E. Carriere Jr. and Pauline McKay. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Cherie Burns, Francine Young and Natalie Henderson. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Walter Carriere, Scott Wishart, Roxy Dick, Patrick McKenzie Sr., Calvin McKay Jr., Irvin Sayese, Blair Young, Guy Constant and Curtis Constant, Nephews: Raymond Burns Jr., Cary Carriere, Vernon Campbell, David Campbell, James Lathlin, Abel Cook, Clarence Campbell, Michael Fenner and Jonathon Cartwright. Honorary pallbearers were Jim’s sons Derrick, Brendan and Bradley Carriere, Simeon Sayese Jr., Carla Demery, Jackie Sinclair, Mary Sayese, Harold Desmarais, Ozzy Mink, Timothy Cartwright, Tiffany Kostyk and all of Jim’s co-workers at the Aseneskak Casino and the OCN VLTs. If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C OS6, would be appreciated by Jim’s family. We would like to thank Yvonne Johnson, Benita and Edwin Jebb and Karen Joyal (Carriere) for the love and care given to his sons throughout the years. Thank you to all those who brought food, sent flowers and made donations towards the family, it was very much appreciated. If we missed anyone, it was not intentional.
