Joyce Colgan-Clarke Obituary

Joyce Clarke, formerly Joyce Colgan age 86 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and former of The Pas, Manitoba died on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre in Shaunavon following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born at Benito, Manitoba on April 21, 1924 and moved to The Pas as a child and spent the rest of her life there. She excelled in music, playing piano and organ, needing only the first name of a song and the key and she could play anything. She assisted in writing The Ice Worm Song. She sang in the DM Chorus Glee Club and the Three D’s Trio. She was honored with the “Honorary Trapper” award for playing music for the venues at the Trappers’ Festival for many years. She was very talented in needle point and making dolls. Along with her husband Ossie, she made beautifully decorated eggs. She always enjoyed hunting with her 20 gauge shotgun and once shot a very rare pintail duck that was banded on both legs. She volunteered as a member of The Pas Health Complex Auxiliary for many years. She loved the cabin and the flowers on her deck at Clearwater Lake, and especially having friends and family visit. She spent many winters house sitting in Kelowna and Oakville, Ontario. Joyce was predeceased by her parents William and Maude Crabb and all of her siblings, her first husband Harold “Bud” Colgan, her son Lee Colgan and her son-in-law Bryon Harkness. She is survived by her husband Allan “Ossie” Clarke of Shaunavon, her daughter Judy Harkness of Shaunavon, her sons Rick Colgan (Ann) of The Pas and Randall Colgan (Meredith) of St. Albert, Alberta, grandchildren Dana Pearson (Todd), Cara Williams (Chris), David Colgan (Stacey), Dean Colgan (Rochelle), Brent Colgan (Meaghan), Mercedes Colgan, Scott Colgan (Heather), and Jennifer Rynierse (Jordan), and great grandchildren Ayva Pearson, Brooklyn Williams, Connor and Cooper Colgan, Brennan, Paige and Tyler Colgan, Donnevyn Colgan and Jasper, Finnigan and Sullivan Rynierse, by her stepchildren Bryan Clarke (Cathy), Kevin Clarke (Jane), her sisters-in-law Beth Bunn (Hugh) and Hazel Rapin, as well as by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from Westminster United Church in The Pas, Manitoba with Reverend Val Cottrill officiating. The eulogy was presented by David Colgan. Cremation preceded the service. Honorary Pallbearers were all her family and friends.
