Judith Caroline Hiebert Obituary

It is with sad hearts that the family of Judith (Judy) Caroline Hiebert (nee Hamm) announce her passing on September 6, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Judy was born on September 1, 1942 in Altona, MB to Jake and Elma Hamm. She received her education in Altona and later moved to Winnipeg, MB where she met and married Peter (Pete) Hiebert in 1967. She lost Pete in death in 1993. She was also predeceased by her parents, Jake and Elma Hamm and her sister Janis Wolfe. She is survived by brothers and sisters, Randall (Susan) Hamm, Wallace (Darlene) Hamm, Barbara Hamm, Karen (Francis) Sentenac and Gregory (Colette) Hamm as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Judy and Pete moved from Winnipeg to The Pas, Manitoba in the early 1970's. Judy spent many years working at St. Paul's Residence in The Pas helping to care for the elderly and infirm. She and Pete spent much of their leisure time watching the Blue Jays win and lose baseball games, something she continued after Pete passed away, and fishing in the lakes and rivers in the area (winter and summer). Some of our fondest family memories are of the fishing trips on Pete's boat, the late night fish fries in their home after a long day on the rocks at Rocky Lake and spending summer vacations as a family in the old log cabin at Clearwater Lake where Judy was always in charge of bringing a batch of our favourite ribs. Judy was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses while she lived in The Pas and attended meetings at the local Kingdom Hall. She spent time sharing her faith with others until ill health limited her ability to do so to the extent she wished. She made and maintained many close friendships with the members of her congregation over the years. Through her study of God's Word Judy came to place her hope for the future on the loving and trustworthy promise of her Creator, Jehovah God, that one day the earth would be restored to its original paradise condition and that the death, pain and sorrow that touches us all today would be a thing of the past (Rev. 21: 3,4). She rests now, safe in Jehovah's memory, awaiting a promised resurrection onto that paradise earth. Our thanks go out to the staff at The Pas Health Complex who showed such kind care and concern for Judy during the months she was in hospital. A very special thanks to Karen and Francis for the self-sacrificing spirit they showed in caring for Judy throughout her time of need and also to the many dear friends from her congregation for their support, hospital visits, cards, flowers and words of encouragement. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 258 Third Street East, The Pas, MB on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E OV9.
