Julia Foord Obituary

Juliana was born Thursday, February 26, 1931 in Calgary, Alberta to Eddie and Juliana Kazinczy, a sister for Martha. Shortly after the family moved to Flin Flon for a short stint and then to Saltcoats for a year before finally settling in Flin Flon at 25 Church Street, which still stands today and where mom grew up. Juliana was a girl guide and loved her shifts at the Flin Flon General Hospital as a Candy Stripper. As a young woman, mom worked in the Blue and White Store and Austries as cashier and bookkeeper. At 17, mom met James Benjamin Foord, who rented a room form her parents. Story has it that Ben saw mom cooking fish and knew he had to make a connection. Juliana and Ben were united in marriage, June 1949 and remained in a suite at the family home on Church Street. Together they raised two boys, Gregory Edwin born July 1950, followed by James Stephen May 1960. Mom and Dad later moved to their new home that Dad had built on Green Street and remained there until their move to Snow Lake in January of 1963. Mom’s love of baking and caring for others with her baking gave her purpose. She sold her baking and also helped Ben with selling Fuller Brush to aide in the family income. Nothing beats mom’s air buns and Hungarian dishes or desserts. She was awarded a certificate for her Hungarian Walnut Slice, chosen out of 100,000 recipes. Mom loved to read all forms of reading material especially magazines and certainly recipes. At an early age she took on the natural talent of her mother, which was to bake and cook. Mom loved to sing. Among her favorites were “You Are My Sunshine”. She was also a member of the St. Luke’s Choir in Flin Flon. Although she was not an Olympian mom, she enjoyed curling in both Flin Flon and Snow Lake. She also enjoyed pottery and proudly displayed her pieces. In Flin Flon she hosted the knitting club ladies and her bible study group. She loved hosting tea parties for all her many friends and neighbors in Flin Flon and continued this tradition in Snow Lake. Family was very important to mom and she expressed that with her many acts of love, kindness, gifts and prayers. We knew there wasn’t a day that mom didn’t say a prayer for us and for that we are forever grateful. Juliana Elizabeth passed away quietly in the early morning of Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Snow Lake Health Centre, just two weeks after her 85th birthday. Juliana is survived by her loving husband of 66 and a half years, James Benjamin Foord; son Gregory (Val) Foord and their children Sara-Lynne (David) Koop, Rebekah (Trevor) Friesen; son James (Gwen) Foord and their children Jonathan (Amanda) Foord, Samara Foord (Steffan), Stephen (Sherry) Foord; great grandchildren Isaiah and Kayra Friesen, Selah, Elise and Liam Foord, Ben and Zoe Foord; niece Margo Delaine; sister-in-law Isabell Schmidt; brother-in-law Ern Foord (Alice); and many nieces and nephews. Juliana was predeceased by her loving parents Eddie and Juliana Kazinczy; stepfather Pista; sister Martha (Bernie) Delaine; parents-in-law Edwin and Nellie Foord; sisters-in-law Joyce and Ted Mercier, Velma and George Wineburger; brother-in-law Fred Schmidt and many special Hungarian neighbors and friends.
