Kenneth Matiowsky Obituary

It is with profound sadness and extremely heavy hearts that we announce that Kenneth Victor Matiowsky passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday November 17, 2017, at the age of 75 years. Ken was born in Seech, Manitoba on Monday, May 25, 1942. Ken and his family moved to Oakburn, Manitoba where he lived through his teenage years. He started his career with Canadian National Railway in Churchill, Manitoba and was transferred to Thompson and then to Flin Flon where he would deliver goods from the trains to businesses. In 1967, he moved to The Pas where he met the woman who would be his future wife Lillian Herman (a nurses’ aide in pediatrics) at the Alouette Hotel where he began a two year courtship. They were married at the Holly Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church on July 5, 1969. In 1972 Ken’s first child Terry was born, followed a year later in 1973 by their second son Dale. Ken along with his wife and father-in-law Bill Herman, built their current home sweet home for his family. In 1974, Ken got a job at the newly opened MANFOR pulp and paper company as a laborer. He took night courses at KCC to advance his career and became a power engineer. He worked at the paper mill for 35 years. Ken was an active member of the community. He was an avid member of the Civil Air, Search and Rescue (CASARA) for participating in several very important rescue operations. He was also a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, The Knights of Columbus (first degree) and The Pas Golden Agers where he served as vice president for 3 years. He was an avid outdoors-man. He loved deer hunting, fishing and traveling. It was his happiness to go out fishing with his grandchildren. Ken is survived by his wife Lillian; sons Terry (Tomomi), Dale; grandchildren Mio, Eugene; sister-in-law Ann; as well as an extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews among others. Ken was predeceased by parents Stephen and Ann; brothers and sisters-in-law Mike (Marie), Joe (Karen), Orest “Buck”; niece Melody Roller. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts, His absence makes the light of our world a little dimmer. The funeral service was held Monday, November 27, 2017, 1:00 pm, Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, with Father Vijay Deivanayagam presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. A reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Terry Matiowsky, Eugene Matiowsky, Bill Benson, Lorne Saskowski, Terry Hendrickson, Tom Kobar. In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Box 1320, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1L2, would be appreciated by Ken’s family.
