Obituary for Leo David Langlois

Leo was born at The Pas, Manitoba on October 14th, 1930, the youngest son of Henri and Evangeline Langlois of The Pas. Leo grew up and spent most of his adult life on Bignell Avenue in The Pas. He attended Sacred Heart School before learning his trade as a carpenter from working with his father Henri. Leo also learned the Sheet Metal trade working for Garand Sheet Metal at The Pas.

In his younger years Leo worked for the CNR at The Pas CN Shops before going the Churchill to pursue his trade as a carpenter.

Leo met and went with Patricia Abram in their younger days in The Pas and they were united in marriage at The Pas on December 1st 1955. Leo and Pat began their family while in The Pas with daughter Michelle born in 1958, son Robert (Bob) born in 1960 and daughter Kathleen (Kathy) born in 1961.

Leo and Pat lived in The Pas for a few years after marriage and then moved back to Churchill in 1960 where Leo continued his career as a carpenter and sheet metal worker with the Department of National Defense and Pan American World Airways at Fort Churchill. On leaving Pan American, Leo received a letter of commendation for his excellent work and contribution to the company.

While in Churchill, Pat and Leo added to their family when son James (Jim) was born in 1966.

Leo and Pat returned to The Pas in 1970 where Leo continued to work as
Carpenter, both as a private contractor and with the Provincial government, retiring from the Manitoba Department of Public Works in 1993

Leo enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at the family cottage at Clearwater Lake. He was an accomplished pianist and guitar player and especially enjoyed playing piano and guitar and singing with his friends.

Leo passed away peacefully on August 29th 2014 at his home on Bignell Avenue with his loving wife Pat and daughter Michelle by his side.

Leo is survived, by his wife Pat, sons, Robert (Bob)and James (Jim) , daughters Michelle and Kathleen(Kathy) and four grandchildren; Marlies (Kathleen), Taylor, Kelsey, Bryston (Jim) and sister Leola Beaumont. He was pre-deceased by his Father Henri, Mother, Evangeline, brothers, Maurice, Horace, Gerry and Roland; brothers- in-law Albert (Bert) Abram, James (Jim) Abram and John (Jack) Abram and sisters-in-law, Verna and Carmel (Nee Abram.)

Leo will be sadly missed by his loving family and his many friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Leo has been cremated; his ashes were blessed by Father Jack Herklotz and a mass was said for Leo and there will be no formal service. Leo’s favorite hymn was “Au Ciel.”
