Leonard Ballantyne

Leonard suddenly passed away peacefully on Sunday August 16, 2015 with his family and friends by his side at St Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 58 years. Leonard was born Thursday, May 23, 1957 in Williams Lake, MB to Maggie Ballantyne. In his early years he lived in Moose Lake and acquired trades learning from older men in labour work. During his time in Moose Lake, he developed a relationship that changed his life and became a husband to the love of his life, Sylvia Campbell. Together they were joined by God on April 8,1981. They were blessed with 4 children and 11 grandchildren. After learning his trades in Moose Lake, he relocated to The Pas to raise their children there. He spent many years in The Pas doing various jobs and mostly working for Jim Chalmers (JPK Construction) in carpentry. Later in life, he relocated his family back to Moose Lake and helped his wife in looking after their grandchildren. Leonard was loved by his grandchildren spending time with them and giving them what he could. His grandchildren grew up with their grandfather (choomie) and loved him with all their heart. No matter how much of a bad mood they were in, Leonard was always the one to make anyone happy. Nobody could have a sad face while Leonard was there, he was one of the happiest people you could every know, always making you laugh and smile, there will never be another like him. Leonard was well known in doing odd jobs whether it be big or small, it was known that whatever task that was given to him, he will get the job done. He also worked for Moose Lake Loggers for some time as a pieceworker. Working for JPK Construction totalling of around 28 years. He worked with Maintenance Public Works for Mosakahiken Cree Nation and worked as a town foreman with Moose Lake Community Council. He also helped friends in doing side jobs for their projects. Leonard is survived by his wife Sylvia Ballantyne; children Leonard Ballantyne Jr., Lotta Campbell, Jennilee (Carson) Ballantyne, Jerilyn (Neil) Ballantyne and Brianna “Oochee” Ballantyne; grandchildren David, Nathan, Darren, Sylvia, Jayda, Chataya, Phoenix, Madison, Billy and Dillon; sister Valerie Ballantyne; cousins Patrick Ballantyne, Howard Ballantyne; Godchild granddaughter Sylvia Nora Campbell; uncle Edward (Shut Out) Ballantyne; niece Ariel Ballantyne; best friend Jim Chalmers and Chester Dumas. Leonard also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, sister and brothers-in-law, and many, many friends. If we forgot anyone, it was not intentional. Leonard was predeceased by his mother Maggie Ballantyne; grandparents William and Louisa Ballantyne; uncles Leonard, Bruce, Alex Ballantyne and Harry Smith; auntie: Anne Rebecca; father and mother in law Fred and Mary Campbell.
