Lona Evans

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Lona Gayle Evans on December 9, 2014 at the Snow Lake Health Centre at the age of 77. She was predeceased by her husband, Clancy, father and mother Ulysses and Violet La Rue, father-in- law and mother-in-law Hugh and Eva Evans and brother-in-laws Murray Evans. Donald Evans and John Dereniwsky Lona will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Dan Evans(Shelley) of Churchill, MB; Bob Evans (Donna) of Lloydminster, SK; Michael Evans of Snow Lake, MB; David Evans (Leah) of Flin Flon, MB and daughter, Sheila Morrison (Richard) of Surrey, BC; grandchildren Liam and Tierney Evans of Churchill, MB, Ryan Evans (Krissy) of Snow Lake, MB, Joshua Evans of Lloydminster, SK, Dillan Evans of Flin Flon, MB, John and Jessa Morrison of Surrey, BC and sister Karen Mooney of Toronto, ON. Lona was born September 13, 1937 in Swift Current, SK. Lona and her family moved to Calgary, AB when she was quite young and soon after, they moved to Drumheller, AB, to open up a furniture store. As a young girl with a mischievous streak, Lona’s adventures sometimes led her into trouble, which made for some good story telling sessions in her later years. When Lona’s mother became sick, they sold the furniture store and moved around to a few places in Alberta and BC in order to restore her mother’s health. In her late teens, a young man named Clancy caught her attention and another adventure was about to begin. She married Clancy on June 16, 1956 in Kindersley; SK. Soon life became very busy for Lona and Clancy when the children came along. Having four boys and one girl, did not leave Lona much time to relax, but when she did, she loved to collect and read cookbooks. At Christmas, family and friends were often the recipients of some wonderful baking such as Shortbread, Vinarterta and Christmas pudding. She also liked to play the piano, the accordion and listen to Hank Williams Sr’s tunes. Family and friends were important to Lona and she looked forward to going to church at the Christian Centre Fellowship in Snow Lake, MB. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Mom’s special friends Greg and Val Foord for visiting with her, taking her out and taking her to church, the staff at the Snow Lake Health Centre for the care and compassion that was given to Mom and all the people who stopped in to visit with Mom.
