Obituary
Ludger Ernest Cloutier passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 92 years. Ludger was one of five sons born to Donat and Elise Cloutier, Friday, January 10, 1919 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. The family moved to The Pas in 1928 where Ludger received his schooling at Sacred Heart. After serving 4 years in World War II, he returned to The Pas where he lived for the remainder of his life. Our uncle was a well known carpenter who built his own home and cabin as well as working on many businesses and homes in the area. He was very proud of the little house he built on Halcrow Avenue. He took meticulous care of his home and yard, and particularly his perfectly lined up wood pile. Ludger’s other pride was his workshop where he spent many hours on special projects. Ludger loved children and animals. “Unk” was a favorite of his nieces and nephews, getting a big kick out of giving them nicknames, some that are still used to this day. He was a big tease who always had a smile and a chocolate bar for the kids when he came to visit. Many happy times were spent at his Clearwater Lake cabin. Uncle was also an avid outdoorsman in his younger years. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time in the bush. In his later years, he gave up hunting, opting for photographing wild life. Up until just recently Ludger still enjoyed drives out to the valley with Morris. Ludger is survived by his nieces and nephews, Paulette Liebrecht, Sandra (Morris) Plesh, Shirley (Ab) Streit, Joanne (Paddy) O’Connor, Louise (Jade) Ewasiuk, David Cloutier, Ken (Margaret) Cloutier, Kelly (Peter) McAree; sisters-in-law Gerry Cloutier and Sylvia Cloutier. Ludger was predeceased by his parents Donat and Elise; brothers Roland, Bernard, Joe and Wilb; sister-in-law Rita. The funeral service for Ludger was held Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, with James Hemauer presiding. Music Ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. Pallbearers were David Cloutier, Lenny McLeod, Chuck Lewis, Peter McAree, Paddy O’Connor, Morris Plesh. Honorary pallbearers were Brent Plesh, Ken Cloutier, Brennyn O’Connor, Randy Liebrecht, Rod Liebrecht. Honor guard were Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19. If friends so desire, donations to the St. Paul’s Residence Equity Fund, c/o Activities, Box 240, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4 would be appreciated by Ludger’s family. The family wishes to thank James and Neil Hemauer for taking care of arrangements . We also wish to thank the staff of St. Paul’s Personal Care Home for their care and concern while Ludger was a resident. We also would like to thank Ludger’s neighbours who, over the years, stopped by to check on him, often bringing good things to eat.
