Margaret Ballantyne Obituary

After a long battle with cancer, Maggie passed on peacefully with her granddaughters by her side, Monday, August 13, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 76 years. Maggie was born in Moose Lake, Manitoba, Sunday, November 3, 1935 to William and Louisa Ballantyne. In her early years, she lived in Grand Rapids and The Pas, before returning home to Moose Lake. During her better days, Maggie enjoyed her daily walks to the Northern Store with her neighbour “Jelly Bean” and her evenings sitting outside with her buddy Cecilia. Kookum enjoyed spending time with her chapan Darren, along with her other chapans. She looked forward to their visits. Kookum enjoyed going to hymn sings and traveling with her best friend, Clara to different places for wakes, funerals and church services. She spent a lot of time volunteering in church activities. Kookum enjoyed playing tricks on people, teasing everyone she knew. Each year, Kookum looked forward to her camping trip to North Arm Camp. She would have everything prepared for weeks prior. She has been an active camper since camp started and every year she took at least one of her grandchildren. Unfortunately she could not make the trip this year. As her illness progressed and she couldn’t get around as well, she spent her time knitting, beading and sewing. She also began to play radio bingo and played until her last days. Mom, Kookum, Chapan and friend will be sadly missed. Maggie is survived by her son Leonard (Sylvia) Ballantyne; daughter Val (Yvonne) Ballantyne; grandchildren Billy-Jack Ballantyne, Lotta (William) Campbell, Jenilee (Carson) Ballantyne, Jerilyn (Neil) Ballantyne, Arielle (Chris) Cook-Ballantyne; great grandchildren Jayda, Phoenix, Brianna, David, Sylvia, Madison, Billy, Darren, Dillan, Nathan, Chataya and Christian; adoptive sons Patrick (Annette) Ballantyne, Howard (Marilyn) Ballantyne; grandchildren Barbara (Dale) Walker, David (Jenna) Grey, Lamaur, Cody, Irma (Rueben), Patrick Jr., Anna May, Debbie and Deborah; great grandchildren Brazier, Braden, Bruce, Bronson, Dale Jr., Demery, Deanette, Kaydance, David Jr., Deanaya, Latina, Jayde and Jaylynn; brother Edward “Shutout” Ballantyne; sister-in-law Rose A. Ballantyne; godchildren Barney Sinclair, Jerilyn Ballantyne; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maggie was predeceased by her parents William and Louisa Ballantyne; brothers Leonard, Bruce, Alex Ballantyne and Harry Smith; sister Anne Rebecca; sister-in-law Matilda Smith; nieces Gloria Ballantyne, Marilyn Ballantyne; grandchild Norma Grey. If we forgot anyone, it was not intentional.
