Marie Dirks Obituary

Alice was born Saturday, September 7, 1935 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. She was the first born to Leo and Gabrielle Dubreuil. Alice had two siblings Hervé and Eileen. She grew up on a farm and met and married her sweetheart, Bob Dirks, December 17, 1952 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. Alice and Bob moved to The Pas in 1960 with their three children, Brenda, Maxine and Calvin. They soon added to their family with Laurie and Sharmaine. Mum started her career as a health care aid at St. Paul's. She loved working with seniors and treasured each and every coworker and friend that she met during her working days. Mum retired from St. Paul’s, December 14, 1994. Although she had retired, she maintained her very special friendships with many of the girls she had worked with. They could be found every Tuesday for lunch at Fat Boys. She was also a great card player and would steal nickels from the best of them playing Rummoli. The one true love mum had was her family. Christmas held a special spot in mum's heart. Each year she would dress up as Santa or maybe an elf and all the grandchildren had a role in the Christmas skits. To this very day we will all have Christmas presents for years. It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to mum. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and great grandmother. Mum passed away peacefully with family by her side Saturday, October 14, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 82 years. Thank you to all of her friends who never ever forgot her and what she stood for; love and kindness. Forever in our hearts, we will miss you Granny. Alice is survived by her daughter Brenda (Tom McBride), Leona, Kristian, from Kelowna BC; daughter Maxine (Steven) Everson, Brande (Trevor), Skyhlar; son Calvin (Alvina), Crystal (Mel), Bambi (Gary); son Laurie (Melanie), Jesse, from Winnipeg, Manitoba; daughter Sharmaine (Darryl) Olson, Savannah, Halle; sister Eileen Bliele; sister-in-law Doreen Dubreuil from Biggar, SK; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alice was predeceased by her husband Bob Dirks; parents Leo and Gabrielle Dubreuil. The funeral service for Alice was held Saturday, October 21, 2017, 11:00 am, at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, with James Hemauer presiding. Memories from the heart were shared by Halle and Savannah Olson, Bambi Melko, Kristian de Tremaudan. Musical tribute was sung by Bambi Melko, Calvin Dirks and Deon Lowe. A reception followed at the Kin Centre, The Pas. In keeping with family wishes, cremation followed and a private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pas Health Complex Foundation, Inc., Memorial Fund, Palliative Care Division, Box 541, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K6 or St. Anthony’s Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Box 240, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4, would be appreciated by Alice’s family.
