Marie Ray Obituary

Veronique was born Wednesday, November 16, 1949 at Duck Lake, Manitoba and suddenly left on her spiritual journey at the age of 64 years, Monday, September 29, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, with her loving husband, children, grandchildren and immediate family members at her bedside. Veronique grew up in Pukatawagan, Manitoba with her parents Adam and Domithilda Castel, along with her siblings. Veronique married Lenard Ray and from 1969 to 1972 they lived in Lynn Lake, Manitoba and then moved back to Sandy Bay where they resided and raised their family. The “Mrs” worked for Mamawetan Health Authority for over 30+ years, from 1972 to 2008. While she was living in Pukatawagan she raised her grandchildren. Veronique’s sense of humour and generosity was well acknowledged by those who knew her. She was always filled with laughter and enthusiasm when in the company of family and friends. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and camping at Bonald Lake and The Bay and last but not least their annual and continuous trips to Pukatawagan to visit family. Veronique was a very strong willed woman and once the “Mrs” put on her baseball cap there was no stopping her…as she would say “I’m gonzo”. You will be dearly missed but not forgotten. Until we meet again in Paradise! We love you and rest in peace. Veronique will be dearly remembered and missed by her children Alice Castel, Johnathan Bear (Vanessa), and Adam Castel; grandchildren Joey Castel (Betty), Tessa Castel (Darcel), April Castel (Jeremy), Bryce Ray (Alyssa), Zylan Hart, Akasha Francois, Axle Morin, Treah Castel, Meadow Castel, and Reva Colomb; great grandchildren William Castel, Walter Castel-Bear, Jaelynn Castel and Ally-Rose Castel; brothers Stanley Castel (Cathy) and family, Eli Castel (Shirley) and family, Moses Castel (Anita), family Richard Castel Jr. and family, Robert Castel and family, Steven Castel (Agnes) and family, and Napoleon Castel (Frances) and family; sisters Sylvia Caribou (James) and family, and Marie Dumas (John “AJ”) and family, Gladys Morin and family, and Marie Sandra Castel and family, Leroy Castel, Ernie Castel, Ann Louise Castel, Thomas Castel and their families; Godchildren Tanya Natewayes, Stephanie McDonald, and Darren “Mosey” Ray; special friends Marleen Colomb, Mavis Caribou, Geraldine Castel, Hilda Bear, Lenard and Adele Ray, Shirley Castel and numerous family and friends that will miss her dearly. Veronique was predeceased by her parents Adam and Domithilda Castel; daughter Sarah (in infancy); brothers Thomas Castel Philip Castel and Peter Castel; and her grandparents; uncles Athanese Castel (Mary Ann) and Arthur Castel (Margaret) If anyone has been forgotten it was not intentional.
