Marjorie Vipond Obituary

Marjorie was born Monday, December 29th, 1947 in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Norma (Nutbrown) and Roger Gee. Marge was raised in Flin Flon where she attended school. The family moved to The Pas, Manitoba in 1962 where she graduated from MBCI. Marge was the oldest of three children. Her brother Alan was born in 1949 and in 1957 her sister Cindy was born. Marge enjoyed playing softball with the Trotters, and racing snowmobiles in the powder puff races. Marge met Frank Vipond and they were married in September of 1967. In March of 1970, Linda Mae was born, followed by Bryan Albert in May of 1973. The family enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Clearwater Lake all year round; snowmobiling, fishing, boating, canoeing, berry picking, swimming, hiking and just hanging out enjoying the lake life. Marge enjoyed spending time at the gun range with Frank where they would spend hours target practicing. Marge enjoyed watching Linda figure skate and was the President of The Pas Figure Skating Club for a period of time. She enjoyed waking up at 6:00 am and taking Linda to figure skating practices. Marge and Linda travelled all over Manitoba and Ontario to different Figure Skating Competitions together. Along with Frank, Marge also enjoyed watching Bryan play hockey and taking him to his tournaments and practices. Marge was very family oriented and the arrival of her grandchildren; Brodie, Kyle, Noah and Hannah was a big highlight of her life. Special moments with each of them included quality time with Noah going for lunches, keeping secrets for Brodie, endless hours baking with Hannah, shopping time with Kyle. Marge also spoke of how proud she was to see Brodie her oldest grandson, graduate high school. Some of Marge’s other interests included listening to country music, playing BINGO, crocheting, baking, canning, gardening, road trips, shopping, going for coffee with Frank and friends, watching hockey, curling and football. Marge worked odd jobs such as cleaning at the Rupert House, selling Avon, and also working at the Texaco Bulk Station. After Linda was in high school and Bryan in junior high, Marge started her career as a Health Care Aide in 1986, where she worked until retiring in 2016. For quite a few years Marge was involved in the SEIU- CUPE Union working as a Shop Steward and Trustee, working on contracts and negotiations for her fellow workers. Over her 30 year career, Marge made a lot of good friends who she kept close contact with spending hours on the phone discussing world issues and planning girls’ nights. Marge had a big heart and when working with the residents she treated them with the upmost respect and dignity throughout the years. In saying this, Marge developed a strong relationship with all the residents and each of them had a special place in her heart. Even after retirement Marge could be often heard talking about how much she missed the residents at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home. Marge was known by Linda and Bryan's friends as the mother on the block you could go too, to get patched up. She was always there, the door was always open for a bandage and a cookie when there was a scraped knee or some hurt feelings to mend. Marge and Frank were married for 47 years. In the spring of 2014, Frank was diagnosed with cancer and Marge managed to keep Frank home up until two days before his passing. Marge moved forward and was always seen out and about in the community. Whether it was out playing bingo with the girls, her many trips to Brandon, attending weekend teas with Hannah and Kalie or having coffee with Cindy, Marge found the strength to continue to live life to the fullest. Marge was diagnosed with cancer in July 2016, and she continued to put the needs of others before her own. Never seeming to complain about her situation and always ready to battle the next hurdle that came her way. While taking treatment, Marge continued to live her life, planting a garden in the summer at the lake with Bryan, Hannah and Noah. Taking road trips on her own to Brandon to see Linda and the boys, continued making salsa, jams and beet relish, basically canning everything in sight. She still enjoyed the independence of driving her jeep and truck, spending time out at the cabin with family. This summer Marge enjoyed being the foreman at the cabin watching the progress and even trying to help with what she could. Marge wasn't always truthful when divulging information about her fender benders. She would casually bring it up in conversation stating, "Oh yah! I forgot to mention, last week I got in a little accident, I came in a little hot at McDonalds with the truck.” Marjorie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28th, at St Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, with family at her side. Marjorie leaves to mourn, her daughter Linda (Brent); son Bryan; grandchildren Brodie, Kyle, Noah and Hannah; her brother Alan; nieces and nephews Alan Jr., Trisha (Jeff), Tanis (Josh); her sister Cindy (Frank); nieces and nephews Nick (Carmen), Joel (Maureen), Kalie (Brian) and their families; mother-in-law Julie Vipond; brother-in-law Robert (Shirley) Vipond; niece and nephew Wendy (Shane), Ryan (Kelly) and their families.
