Mary Fosseneuve Obituary

Mom was born on Wednesday, November, 25, 1942 at her parent’s trapline in Barrier, Manitoba. Mary Anne better known as “SuperGran” was united into marriage to Alex Fosseneuve on June, 26, 1971. Together they raised five children Darrell, Delphine, Benard, Carleen and Vieanna, and many foster children and extended family. Mom was raised on our Grandparents trapline and lived the traditional way of life alongside her 14 siblings. As a family they would hunt, fish and trap, Mom would frequently tell stories of their way of life and would recall it wasn’t hard and that it was a good life. During her life SuperGran was very active, she loved to travel, and enjoyed her beadwork and making traditional clothing. She played baseball with the “Umpherville Royals” and was an active member of the Anglican Church Women’s and the Willing Workers group cooking and singing for many years. She also enjoyed competing in Traditional Events during Opaskwayak Indian Days, and having her bake sales at the Otineka Mall. She also loved her b-i-n-g-o and all her bingo buddies frequently asking “did you win yet?” Our mother was employed with the Clearwater Lake Sanitorium, the Wescana Inn and she was a taxi driver for many years. SuperGran’s legacy was the love for her Grandchildren and Chapans, and for telling you it like it is! She was an independent strong-willed woman who loved to laugh and she enjoyed her many friendships. One of Mom’s priorities was to make sure all the kids in OCN got a Christmas present so she fundraised to ensure to buy presents, she always believed in the gift of giving and being there for others. She always thought of the children in our community and felt it was her job to look after everyone, she opened her home to many and helped any way she could. SuperGran’s tradition was that each time a baby was born into the family she would make the ‘wraparound’s’ they would learn to walk in. She did her best to make it to family celebrations and always said the love for her Grandkids was more than anything, giving them their own special nicknames and songs. When Mom was diagnosed with Cancer in January 2017, she said she would take what the good Lord gave her and accepted it immediately. In SuperGrans’ own unique attitude she stated, “Cancer doesn’t win – I win – because I will go to Heaven and I will get to be with dad.” On Tuesday, November 14, 2017 – Mom passed away and ‘won’ her battle with Cancer. She will be missed by many and her legacy will continue on with family and friends. If we are to learn anything from her remember she was a strong woman who didn’t fear anything or anyone. Her family circle is complete once again as she was the last of all her siblings to make the journey to heaven. We love you Moma – Supergran thank you for raising us to be a strong family.
