Mary was born in Austria Saturday, September 20, 1913 to George and Dokia Boysun. With unrest and rumour of war her parents immigrated to Canada in the early spring of 1914. They settled in Sifton, Manitoba area on the farm and raised a family of six. Mary had three sisters - Pauline, Anne and Minnie and two brothers - Jack and William. Dokia passed away on December 24, 1924 and George passed away April 21, 1931. Being an orphan, Mary was working in Winnipeg when she was told by her aunt that her loving grandma was not feeling well. Mary quit her job and moved to Cowan, Manitoba to stay and care for her grandma. It was in Cowan where she met William Hlady her future husband. After a year they got married and raised a family of three. Daughter Anne was born on August 15, 1934, son Paul was born on August 15, 1936 and their third child Theodore (Ted) Gregory on October 2, 1940. In 1939 the family moved to Winnipeg, there her husband was employed by Canada Packers. In 1945 the family moved again out of the city to Renwer, Manitoba. There Mary was a member in the Ukrainian Catholic Church, a leader in the girl's 4-H Sewing Club, and other community social clubs. Her husband was employed by the Government as a Foreman on the highway. They moved to The Pas and moved again to Wabowden. In 1967 her husband was killed in an accident. Mary moved to Swan River, there she made her home. Mary grew beautiful flower gardens and fruit trees, and was employed by the Community Inn as a waitress and cook. In 1973 she was employed at the Swan Valley Lodge as a Nurse's Aide until she retired in 1981. Disabled by a stroke in 1985 she moved to The Pas in October 1989 to be close to the family, she moved into Valhalla Senior Housing. On October 27, 2009 Mary moved into St. Paul's Personal Care Home. Mary passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, Monday, September 29, 2014 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, at the age of 101 years. Mary is survived by daughter Anne Storozuk, son Ted (Teen) Hlady, daughter-in-law Sonia Hlady, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her parents George and Dokia; husband William; son Paul; son-in-law William Storozuk; grandsons Patrick Storozuk, Jerry Storozuk and Tommy Storozuk; sisters Pauline and Anne; and brothers William and Jack. Prayers were held Thursday, October 2, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba. Divine Funeral Liturgy was held Friday, October 3, 2014, 4:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Ghost, The Pas, Manitoba with Father George Malik presiding. Interment took place Saturday, October 4, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the Cowan Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Cowan, Manitoba. Active Pallbearers were Mary’s Grandsons and Great Grandsons: Paul Hlady Jr, Greg Hlady, David Hlady, Michael Yeo, Ryan Baschak. and Logan Hlady Honorary Pallbearers were all of Mary’s Family and Friends. In lieu of flowers donations to the Cowan Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Fund, Box 27, Cowan, Manitoba R0L 0L0, would be appreciated by Mary’s family.
