Mary Stevenson Obituary

A long time resident of The Pas, Mary Stevenson, nee Adams, was born Thursday, November 6, 1913 in Inwood, Manitoba and was raised there and in Bellsite, Manitoba. She married Norman Stevenson in 1932. They raised their family in Bellsite, Winnipeg and later moved to The Pas. Norman passed away August 16, 1977. Mary moved to Kin Kourt where she resided on her own until she was 95. Mary recently moved in with her daughter Norma and son-in-law Ron Hayes. Over the years Mary raised her family while working a number of jobs including the Norwood Hall at the Clearwater Lake San. Mary enjoyed cards and especially winning the 55 cent winners pot. She loved her evenings out for bingo. She also enjoyed rug hooking, crocheting and reading. Mary raised some very unusual pets over the years including an orphaned Moose (slept on the kitchen floor), 3 bear cubs (Winnipeg Zoo later adopted them), various dogs and cats along with a few birds with character. Mary was a lifetime member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary since 1956. Mary passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Thursday, August 12, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, age 96 years. Mary is survived by her sons Allen (Hazel) Stevenson and Billy (Charlette) Stevenson; daughter Norma (Ron) Hayes; daughter-in-law Louise (Stan) Stevenson. She leaves to mourn her passing 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Adams and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Norman; 13 brothers and sisters; her daughter Stella (Jack) McPhail and son Stanley Stevenson. The funeral service for Mary was held Monday, August 16, 2010, 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba with James Hemauer presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Tribute hymn “Old Rugged Cross” was sung by great granddaughter Julia Hayes. Flower presentation was great granddaughters Jenna Hayes and Amanda Hayes Ducharme. Poem, “If Tears Could Build a Stairway” was read by granddaughter Shannon Hayes. Memories of the heart were shared by great granddaughter Gaylene Poulin. Scripture reading was proclaimed by great granddaughter Dayna Hayes. A private family interment was held Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. Active Pallbearers were great grandchildren, Donald Poulin, Terry Poulin, Chris Turner, Robert Turner, Braden Hayes, Randi Hayes, Leslie Stevenson, Lori Stevenson, Bernel Stevenson, Janel Stevenson and Nathan Stevenson. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Mary’s family and friends. Honor guard were the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Greeter was great grandson, Tyson Poulin.
