Obituary
Mervin Charles Sahyes, 68, passed away suddenly after his struggle with cancer on November 16, 2017, in Winnipeg, MB, surrounded by loved ones. He is predeceased by his first wife Maryanne Sahyes and survived by his second wife Judy Sahyes; his four children Crystal, Carrie, Luke (Robyn Sayese), and Joshua; his grandchildren Summer, Dylan, and Hannah; and the many members of his large extended family. Mervin was born on September 17, 1949, in Cumberland House, SK, to parents William and Margaret Sahyes. Mervin often remarked about his early childhood living in a small cabin in the bush. Growing up, he and his family relied on hunting, fishing, and trapping for much of their livelihood. He was fluent in Cree as it was his first and primary language as he did not learn English until later on in his childhood. His love for the bush continued to stay with him in his later years as he always pursued his love for hunting, fishing, and camping. Even when he was too weak to hunt and fish, he would still go out for walks so he would be surrounded by nature. Mervin then left Cumberland House as a young man to seek his fortune traveling and working in various jobs with stints in surveying, railroads, and mining. It was during these travels he had met, and later married, his first wife Maryanne on March 9, 1974. From there, Mervin then decided to move to The Pas with his young family to work in the pulp and paper industry. He became a Born-Again Christian in the mid-70s along with his first wife Maryanne. He was a member of the Grace Apostolic Church, later Living Water Apostolic Fellowship, where he was a fully active and committed member until his passing. When his first wife Maryanne passed away on April 1, 2001, he had found renewed strength in his faith. It was then that he came to know Judy as they married on August 18, 2001, both continuing on with their journey of faith attending Living Water Church together. He was faithful in attending church and helped out with the worship team by leading the worship service with Judy and playing the bass guitar for Reverend Fred Evans. Mervin was known to provide a helpful hand to those in need, forgiving those who wronged him, and ministering to other people about his love for Jesus Christ. Mervin has left our world teaching us many important lessons in living a full and peaceful life. The pride in his upbringing taught the importance of history and heritage; his job showed the value of hard work and labour; his devotion to family provided an example of how to be a loving father and grandfather; and his Christian life testified to the powerful life-changing influence of faith. Mervin was well-loved by many who came to know him and will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and his community. Prayers and visitation will be held Friday, November 24, 2017, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017, 1:00 pm, at the Living Water Apostolic Church, The Pas, with Evangelist Fred Evans and Pastor Betty Olson presiding. Pallbearers were Luke Sayese, Joshua Sayese, Dylan Sayese, David Sinclair, Joel Sinclair, John Kliever. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba followed by a reception at the Nor-Lite Hall, The Pas.
