Michael Sean Erickson of Cranberry Portage, Manitoba, passed away suddenly, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 33 years of age. Michael is predeceased by his father Robert Erickson Sr.; grandparents Ernest and Eileen Gamblin and grandfather Olaf Hans Erickson; auntie Irene Kastrukoff. Michael was born Monday, May 15, 1978 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba to Kathleen Delia Erickson and Robert Anselm Erickson. Mikey was raised in Cranberry Portage, Manitoba where he attended elementary school and high school. Michael enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting, picking berries. He spent a lot of his time helping others and loved spending time with family and friends. Mikey enjoyed wide variety of music such as AC DC, Nickleback, Hank Williams Sr. and when the guitars came out, also like to sing some Tragically Hip. One of Mikey’s favourite times was the summer because he was able to go fire fighting and also had the opportunity to go commercial fishing for Barry Matkowski. Mikey also worked for Jeff Pederson Construction in foundation repair and often talked about his experiences in Winnipeg. Mike was always busy doing odd jobs around the community and helping out family and friends. Michael is survived by his mother Kathleen Delia Erickson; step-father Frank Ranville; grandmother Anna Erickson of The Pas; brothers Robert Erickson, Jr., John Erickson, Christopher Erickson, Geoffery Erickson (Charmaine), Dean Erickson (Destiny) of Cranberry Potage, Manitoba, Chad Ranville (Vicky), Chris Ranville of Crane River; sister Tracey Erickson (Donald) of The Pas, Manitoba, Myrna Ranville (David) of Crane River; nephews Robert “Bobby” Allard, Troen Erickson, Austin, Brandon and Aiden Washenfelder; nieces, Roxanne Allard, Thelecia Patten; many aunties, uncles, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention. A wake service was held, Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 7:00 pm, at the Cranberry Portage Elementary School Gymnasium. The funeral service for Michael was held Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 1:00 pm, at th Cranberry Portage Elementary School Gymnasium, with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Eulogy was delivered by Vince Gamblin. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Carmen Gamblin and Renee Kastrukoff. Interment followed at Cranberry Portage Cemetery, Cranberry Portage, Manitoba Following the interment prayers, a reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Cranberry Portage, Manitoba Pallbearers were Robert Erickson (brother), Geoffrey Erickson (brother), Dean Erickson (brother), Kevin Baker (friend), Clint Danielson (friend), Jonathan Gamblin (cousin), Gregory Lundie (friend), Jordan Gamblin (cousin), Trevor Fosseneuve (cousin), Wayne Chartrand (friend). Honorary pallbearers were Michael’s family and friends. Ushers were Chris Ranville and Chad Ranville. Guest book attendants were Michelle Gamblin and Myrna Ranville If friends so desire, donations to The Main Street Project, 75 Martha Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 1A4, would be appreciated by Michael’s family.
