Miriam Martin Obituary

Miriam was born Thursday, February 18, 1932 at Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba. Miriam received her education at The Pas Reserve and at the Elk Horn Residential School. Miriam was united in marriage to Archibald Martin. They were blessed with 5 sons and 4 daughters. Miriam lived most of her life at Umpherville Settlement. She enjoyed preparing and cooking traditional food for her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards and going to Bingo’s in her younger years. Miriam made everyone feel welcome when you walked in her home, making sure you had a bite to eat and a cup of tea. Miriam had a passion for frogs and she had quite a collection that she accumulated over the years from family and friends. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Miriam and her late sister Rachel enjoyed doing beadwork and sewing traditional moccasins, mitts and vamps. A gift passed on to them by their mother Eliza Nasekapow. Then passed this gift on to her daughters and granddaughters. She would never hesitate to share her wisdom and kindness to all who knew her.
