Peter was born Monday, March 23, 1953 in The Pas, Manitoba and peacefully left on his spiritual journey Wednesday, March 14, 2012 with his loving wife and children, grandchildren and his immediate family members at his bedside, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 58 years.
Peter was a man with few words but his gestures and nods of acknowledgement gave his message as he was a humble man. He remained strong to his faith. His source of strength was through the power of prayer and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ as he endured his illness without complaint.
Peter had the opportunity to speak with his children leaving them with the understanding that life goes on without him and that they are to look out and take care of each other. He made special mention of his grandchildren. He gave words of advice that each of his children will learn to honour in his memory throughout their lives.
He was generally known as “Big Pete” because of his passion of baseball and hockey. He raised an athletic family and enjoyed recreational activities; hunting, fishing and even having horseshoe tournaments in their backyard and this also allowed his grandchildren to witness having quality family fun. His special place that he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends was at Bonald Lake and Lookout Bay.
Pete worked for his community in the Sanitation Department for many years so his garbage truck became a familiar sight along with his dedicated crew.
Peter and Geraldine were blessed with 39 years of marriage. They spent lots of time with mother nature, outdoors, hunting and many times together participating in fish derbies, baseball and hockey tournaments and family gatherings.
The farewells from his wife and children gave him a deep sense of peace as they spoke to him to seek the light, to go home and that he would be welcomed by the Creator and all his family members that went before him.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Geraldine; children Corey (Yvonne) Castel, Daisy (Darrel) Linklater, Florastine (Robert) Castel, Gregory (Wilma) Castel, Peter “Junior” Castel, Leonard (Georgina) Castel; grandchildren Christopher, Tyler, Vanita, Tanisha, Scott, Alyssa, Dustin, Keegan, Nolan, Jeremy, Sharona, Darilyne, Gail, Taylan, Alexis; great grandchildren Shaylan, Payton, Shayna, Shalaya.
