Raymond Catt Obituary

Raymond Lawrence Catt was born on Monday, May 11, 1942 to John and Mary Catt. He grew up in Old Post Chemawawin and has passed on many memories of his livelihood onto his children, grandchildren, dear friends and chappans. Raymond took Maimie Agnes as his wife on February 11, 1963 in a triple wedding that would be the last wedding to take place in Old Post Chemawawin. Ray and Agnes had two beautiful daughters Delores Alvina and Ann Margaret along with stepchildren Elaine Ann and Joe Catt. Raymond poured all his love into his grandchildren, he enjoyed making them laugh and he especially loved celebrating his birthday alongside his beloved wife Dontee, daughter Ann and his chappan Ray-Sean. Raymond took pride in his work, as he had many job opportunities to make a living. He worked on the highways as a young man and that was his first time seeing what gravy was and had eaten it like it was soup. He was also a trapper, hunter and fisherman. He owned a Taxi business in Easterville Manitoba in which he later handed over to brother in law Herman George. Raymond served his community as a counsellor for a number of years and also as a pillar in the Body of Christ as a Christian. An outpouring of the spirit of God moved in the 60s and had swept across Easterville. He had held house meetings nightly and later converted his home into the first church in Easterville. He was also a real jokester and everyone who came across his path knew his funny side. He enjoyed exchanging jokes and had many inside jokes that he shared with his dear friends and family. Raymond was a family man, he and his wife took many young people into their home. They helped when they could and never asked for anything in return. He was a very honest and outspoken person. He taught his loved ones to take on those characteristics and always expected the best for them in life. Grandpa Catt always encouraged a love for music onto his grandchildren. He purchased many of his grandkids musical instruments and equipment. He expressed many times his passion for singing and playing. Catt had many plans, dreams and wishes. He often mentioned he and his nephew, Roger Quill, would fly to and see the “Vegas lights”. He played Texas Hold’em and developed many friendships at the table. Win or lose, he walked away richer than he was before he walked in. Rich in happiness, rich in friendship and rich in love. Raymond passed away suddenly on Friday, July 15th, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 74 years. Raymond “Laurie” Catt will be missed dearly in the days to come by his daughters Delores (Orin) Carlson, Ann (Tim) Catt; step-daughter Elaine Gouldhawk; sisters Lena Gott, Beatrice Scott, Sally Bourassa, Amy (Don) Martin; special nephew Roger (wife) Quill, 23 grandchildren, 23 Chappans, numerous nephews and nieces; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; mother-in-law Alice George; he will be missed by his Texas Buddies and his best friend Roy Umpherville. Raymond was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Agnes; as well as many relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
