Robert Anselm Valentine Erickson Sr., of Cranberry Portage, Manitoba, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, age 66 years. Robert was predeceased by his father Olaf Hans Erickson. Robert was born in Sherridon, Manitoba, Saturday, February 24, 1945 to Olaf (Hans) and Anna Erickson. Robert attended elementary school in Willowbrook, Saskatchewan, grade school in Sherridon, Manitoba and high school in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. Robert’s hobbies and interest were hunting, fishing, trapping and he was most happy teaching his sons the fishing skills his father taught him. He enjoyed family outings with his children and the beach was the family’s favourite place to go. Robert was an active member of the Metis Federation in his early years. Robert was musically inclined and enjoyed playing the accordion and guitar. Robert worked alongside his father prospecting, worked with his brother Ron “Butch” at Midwest Diamond Drilling, was a fishing and hunting guide in Sherridon and Cranberry Portage, he was also a logger and skidder operator in the Forest Industry. Robert is survived by his mother Anna Erickson of The Pas; sons, Robert Jr., John, Christopher, Geoffrey (Charmaine), Michael, Dean (Destiny) all of Cranberry Portage, Manitoba; daughter Tracey Erickson (Don) of The Pas; brothers Ronald of Brandon, MB, John (Nellie) of The Pas, MB, Eric (Donalda) of Sherridon, MB; sisters Marie and Evelyn Erickson of Winnipeg, MB; Uncle Joseph Sayese; grandchildren Roxanne and Robert “Bobby” Allard, Thelecia Patten, Troen Erickson, Austin, Brandon and Aiden Washenfelder; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
