Rose Luce

Longtime resident of The Pas, Rose Ellen Olive Luce, wife of the late Melvin Luce, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and family, Friday, June 30, 2017, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 81 years. Rose was born Wednesday, August 14, 1935, in Birch River, Manitoba to Charles Angus Robinson and Sylvia Lena Rietshet. Mom was one of 9 children. Rose was united in marriage to the love of her life Melvin Luce, Friday, October 1, 1954 in Birch River, Manitoba. Through this union, 8 children were born. Mom and Dad started their family in Birch River, arriving in The Pas in 1971. It was here that they raised their family. Mom was active in the community working many jobs. She did housekeeping, was a health care aide, a bus driver, a taxi driver and a foster mother to many children she treated as her very own. Mom enjoyed a lot in life. She loved camping, fishing, crocheting, knitting, crafting and baking. At the age of 75 she attended a John Cougar Mellancamp concert and was excited as a teenage girl. Mom’s house at Christmas time was as brilliant as the North Pole. Mom’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone loved “Grandma Rose” and she enjoyed talking to people, she treated everyone as family. Mom leaves to mourn her passing, her children Rosemary (Elof) Haggstrom, Lena (George) Sanderson, Karen Luce, Ken (Colleen) Luce, Doug (Donna) Luce, John Luce, Dwight (Jennifer) Luce; ex-daughters-in-law Pamela and Corinna; ex-son-in-law Doug Couthart; grandchildren Ginny, Clinton, Barb, Stuart, Rene, Ryan, Jennifer, Deserae, Kendra, Kevin, Derek, Heather, Shawna, Hannah, Danny, Danielle, Russell, Devaughn, Rainy, Cordelia, Joshua, Christopher and D’Anna; as well as numerous great grandchildren, family and friends. Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, Melvin; son Charlie; grandson Josh; great grandson Dean; as well as many members of her family. The funeral service was held Thursday, July 6, 2017, 2:00 pm, at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, with James Hemauer presiding. Memories were shared by Colleen Luce. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. A reception followed at the residence of Lena and George Sanderson, 612 Carrot River Road, The Pas, MB. Pallbearers were Rose’s sons Ken, Doug, John, Dwight. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Rose’s Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pas Health Complex Foundation, Inc., Memorial Fund, Palliative Care Division, Box 541, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K6, would be appreciated by Rose’s family.
