Rose Dodds Obituary

Rose was born Saturday, March 10, 1928 on the family farm located in the Calder-MacNutt area to parents Steven and Helen (nee Purshega) Pitz, early Ukrainian immigrant pioneers who came to Saskatchewan at the turn of the 19th century from the Austrian Province of Bukovina, Romania. One of 11 siblings, Rose attended Czernawka School, helped on the farm and worked in MacNutt until she eventually moved to Yorkton where she was employed at Safeway for many years. In Yorkton she met Bill and they were united in marriage in 1955 at the Yorkton United Church. Rose and Bill left Yorkton in 1969 moving to Lemberg, Saskatchewan and then on to The Pas in 1973 where they continued to raise their family. Rose enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, gardening, was an avid curler and a great cook. With her crazy sense of humor, one needed to be always on their toes when they were around Rose. You never knew if you were going to be the next victim of one of her silly pranks. It definitely made her life more fun as her grandchildren got older and they soon became her “partners in crime” and they could scheme together which she referred to as “paybacks”. In The Pas, Rose held various jobs but the one everyone remembers her by and the one she truly enjoyed the most was the job with the Town of The Pas as Parking Meter Attendant (aka the Parking Meter Lady!). Many a “violator” claimed she seemed to suddenly pop out of nowhere just to give them a ticket when in fact if you just stood quietly and listened, you could have probably heard her whistling coming from blocks away. Rose passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 85 years. Rose leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her children Dwight (Ang), Wanda (Phil), Dwayne (Liz), Scott (Kristy); grandchildren Jordan (Laura) Hanratty, Chet Hanratty, Matt Dodds, Ashley Dodds, Kara Dodds, Jesse Dodds, Justine Dodds, Tyson Dodds and Danica Dodds; brothers John (Helene) Pitz, Ivin (Sylvia) Pitz; sister Ann Boures (Harry); sisters-in-law Ann Pitz, Barbara Pitz; many nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband Bill; mother Helen; father Steven; sisters Elizabeth and Mary; brothers Alex, Nick, Peter, Bill and George; mother and father-in-law Samuel and Margaret Dodds; sisters-in-law Sheila Dodds, Beverley (Mac) Profit; brother-in-law George Toderian. In keeping with Rose’s wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate her life was held Friday, May 10, 2013, 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, with James Hemauer presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
