Sandra Elizabeth Cockle Obituary

We deeply regret to announce that after a short battle with cancer, Sandra Cockle passed away with family at her side on October 4, 2015. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Riverview Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit, especially Tony for their compassion and care during her brief stay, even when they brought her store bought applesauce. Sandra was born June 12, 1946 on her family farm in Saskatchewan. She married Raymond Cockle and moved to Snow Lake Manitoba in 1970 where they raised their 5 children. Sandra was very involved with the community, working for the hall and later, through volunteering at the Second Glance. Sandra generously shared her knowledge of gardening (which she loved) or baking (which she also loved) or the other uses for odds and ends she collected (which she loved the most). It is likely that any conversation with Sandra would result in the participants learning something, or being asked if they needed an item she picked up or found for them. Sandra was passionately opinionated especially regarding toast, and heaven forbid it wasn’t buttered all the way to the edges. Her caramel popcorn was renowned and her butter tarts started wars. Sandra was always thinking of others, sometimes to the detriment of their available storage space, but her biggest gift was being the most genuine, personable conversationalist. Everyone she knew was happy to share news, ask questions (she always had the answers), share stories (of which she had many) or just generally talk to anyone that crossed her path. She regularly connected with family and friends, evident by the ever present busy signal and call waiting was never an option. Sandra will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews and an amazing network of friends, colleagues, coworkers and neighbours. A celebration of life will be held in the Snow Lake Community Hall on October 24th at 1 pm. Memorial donations can be made to “A Port in the Storm.”
