Sari Hellsten Obituary

Sari was born Sunday, January 7, 1962 in Kuusankoski, Finland to Helena and Teuvo Hellsten. In 1971 she moved to Canada with her family. Sari was a “Flower Child” of the 1970’s. Sari was a very dedicated career woman, working as a Steno/Receptionist at the RCMP office in Cranberry Portage. She even found time to volunteer her time at the Royal Canadian Legion. Sari enjoyed many things in life including gardening, which she had a green thumb for and enjoyed all the Danielle Steel novels she could read. Sari also spent many relaxing hours doing cross stitch and watching Coronation Street. She also loved fishing and curling bonspiels. Sari could be considered a “Bag Lady” in a good way, because packing for her brood, into a small space in her little “Flower Mobiles”, required precise packing. She was a “Shopper Extraordinaire” and had an eye for lovely things and a keener eye for a good deal or bargains. Sari loved spending time with Barney, her family and friends and cooking many delicious gourmet meals for them. She was such a dedicated mother and grandmother and was proud and protective of her family and she will be dearly missed. Sari passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 50 years. Sari will be lovingly remembered by her common-law husband Barney Anderson; daughter Marika Hellsten; son Barrett Anderson; grandchildren Denika and Ashton Hellsten-Danielson; mother Helena Hellsten; sister Satu (Chris) Speelman and their family; mother and father-in-law Roy & Mary Anderson; brothers-in-law Bob (Tracey) Anderson and family, Barry (Tiffany) Anderson; sister-in-law Tracey (Simon) Bosch; grandma Pearl Anderson; and Sari’s four legged companion Alexis. Sari was predeceased by her father Teuvo “Vaari” Hellsten. In keeping with Sari’s wishes, cremation took place and a celebration of Sari’s life was held Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Cranberry Portage, Manitoba. If friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6, would be appreciated by Sari’s family.
