Shirley Chepil Obituary

Shirley Janet Chepil passed away peacefully Sunday, August 31, 2014 with her family by her side at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 78 years. Janet, as she was known to many, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba , Thursday, March 26, 1936. Janet was a long time resident of Yorkton, SK, but moved to The Pas in 2012 due to health reasons. She developed Alzheimer’s disease and due to the fact that her and her husband John could not have children, she needed to be closer to a family member for care. Sadly the Alzheimer’s got the best of her. Throughout her life Janet did many things. She showed horses, raised and showed goats and showed dogs. She also milked goats and supplied some babies who could not handle cows milk. Janet was also a long time active member of the Yorkton Fair Board. She also spent 35 years as a cook and then as manager and cook at the Yorkton Co-op cafeteria. People today still talk about her meatball stew. Janet was one of those people who you could always count on for help when needed and she always had the time to listen to your troubles. Some of her best socializing was done at the Mall food court where on Thursdays or Saturdays (farmers market days) you could find her at the Mall. Janet will be sadly missed by her two sisters Sandra (John) Andersen, Leah Hansen; other family members, nieces, nephews and her few good friends she has left behind. Janet was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, John Chepil; her parents Howard and Sadie Hansen; brothers Harold Hansen, Clifford Hansen; nephew Edward Andersen.
