Shirley de Hoop

Shirley was born February 5, 1939 in The Pas, Manitoba to Garnet and Bella Clark. She grew up in Cormorant living down river at Frog Creek with her brothers and sisters, as her father was a game warden. She attended school in Cormorant until high school when the family moved to Bignell Avenue in The Pas. After graduation Shirley went to Red Deer Alberta and worked as an operator for the telephone company. Shirley met John in 1964. They got married in Red Deer in October1965 and started their own family when Carolyn was born February 1966. The family then moved to The Pas, which they called home where Michael was born in March 1969. Mom looked after her children until she started her employment with Manitoba Telephone System where she worked for many years. Mom and dad moved to Limestone in 1985 where they both worked for 5 years. She was employed with Manitoba Hydro as a secretary (clerk) and retired, at which time they returned back to The Pas. Shirley kept busy helping out with her grandchildren and enjoyed being part of all their activities and daily lives. In her younger years Shirley enjoyed curling and fast ball. Later in life she enjoyed bead working, crocheting, baking, picking berries, her cabin at Cormorant and gardening. She held many positons with The Pas Figure Skating Club and The Pas Minor Hockey. Grandma was the best cookie and perogies maker and we will all miss her cooking. She was also one of the biggest hockey fans. Shirley passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 75 years, after a courageous battle with heart issues. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her husband John; children Carolyn (Terry) and Michael (Theresa); grandchildren Lucas, Lantz, Logan, Nicholas and Micheala; brother Gary (Lydia) Clark; sisters Eileen Turner, Audrey Gareau, Julie (Jim) Millar; sister-law-law Ann de Hoop; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to numerous to mention. Mom was predeceased by her parents Garnet and Bella Clark; brother Raymond Clark; brothers-in-law Leslie Turner and Orville Gareau; her father-in-law Cornelius de Hoop and her mother-in-law Elizabeth de Hoop. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday, July 30, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, Manitoba with The Venerable Emeritis Lydia Constant and Rev. Gary Clark presiding. Memories from the Heart: Garth Gareau. Readings: Lantz Hiebert, Carolyn Hiebert, and Lucas Hiebert. Tribute Hymn: Rev. Gary Clark. Pallbearers were Lucas Hiebert, Lantz Hiebert, Logan Hiebert, Terry Hiebert, Nicholas de Hoop, Mike de Hoop Honorary Pallbearers were all Shirley’s family and friends. Immediately following the service, a time of fellowship and refreshment was held at the Christ Church Anglican Hall. If friends so desire, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6, or to The Paw Local Dog Rescue, c/o Emma Lees, 52 Hone Street, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1T9, would be appreciated by Shirley’s family Hemauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, The Pas, in care of arrangements.
