Stephen Davies THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Stephen Davies

Stephen Dudley Davies of Snow Lake, Manitoba went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 24th, 2010. Stephen was born Thursday, November 7th, 1963 in Montreal, QC, the youngest son of Lloyd and Florence Davies. Stephen is survived by his wife Laurie and their four children Bethany, Elisha, Jessica and Benjamin. Stephen also leaves behind his mother Florence; sister Arlene and family; brother Lyall and family; step-sister Barbara and family; father-in-law Ed Ramsay; brother-in-law Danny and family; and sister-in-law Lynne and family. Stephen was pre-deceased by his father Lloyd; step-brother Lloyd; step-sister Lois; and mother-in-law Judy Ramsay. At the time of his passing Stephen was the COO (Chief Operating Officer) of both Crowflight Minerals in Wabowden, MB and of Kria Resources of Toronto, ON. He was also the Mines Projects Engineer for Forbes Manhattan based in Toronto. Stephen’s long mining career as a professional engineer spanned over 25 years in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan during which time he worked for many major mining companies. Stephen’s love for the mining industry and his work ethic earned him the respect and friendship of his many colleagues over the years. Stephen’s faith in Jesus Christ was foremost in his life and it was his heart’s desire that his family and friends would come to know Jesus and serve him in their lives. No matter where they lived Laurie and the children knew that their church family would become an extension of themselves and an important part of their lives as it was in Steve’s. Stephen’s family was his pride and joy and his strong work ethic was something he made sure to pass on to his children. Stephen loved to build and was always busy working on his latest project. His children were often seen working alongside their dad chopping wood, building the house, painting or whatever job needed to be done. He took great pride in his children’s accomplishments (school, hockey, volleyball, curling, art, trapping, youth group, youth band, volunteering their summers at Simonhouse Bible Camp, etc.). Stephen and his family had recently moved to Snow Lake from Thompson, MB. Together Steve and Laurie and the children built their dream home with the help of many family and friends. Stephen was an active member of the Snow Lake Christian Centre and is a board member of the Canadian Cuban Project Team, a missionary organization of the Brethren in Christ Church. Stephen was also a past member of Simonhouse Bible Camp board. Stephen also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many friends and family and he loved the fact that Manitoba was an outdoorsman’s paradise. Stephen’s latest ventures that were dear to his heart were to see the completion of the new lodge at Simonhouse Bible Camp and his involvement with the Canadian Cuban Project Team. He loved the time he could spend at camp and the opportunity to serve in Cuba, and was planning another trip in November. Although Stephen’s family and friends will miss him dearly, we take great comfort in the knowledge that he is with Jesus and we will see him again. In keeping with family wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Steve’s life was held Saturday, October 30, 2010, 1:00 pm at the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall, Snow Lake, Manitoba with Pastor Dale Warkentin presiding. Music was provided by the Community Choir, Bev Krul, Denis Yates and Tony Butt. Celebration of Life was given by Lyall Davies (Steve’s brother) and Meditation by Arlene Davies-Fuhr (Steve’s sister). Memories of the heart were shared by Dale Warkentin, Valerie Foord who read tributes from herself as well as Stephen’s aunt Nancy and uncle Dick, Christina Blackwell, Freda Lepine and Darlene Mulholland, Kari Pulkkinen read tributes from himself and on behalf of MP Steven Fletcher, who could not be there but was represented by his father David Fletcher. Additional memories were shared later at the luncheon at the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall in Snow Lake. Ushers were James McDougal, Keith Derksen, Marlowe Rempel, Dayle Rusk, David Koop, Steve Masson. Honorary pallbearers were all those whose lives Stephen has touched over the years. If friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Cuban Project Team, c/o Welland Brethren in Christ Church, 50 Lincoln Street, West, Welland, Ontario, L3C 5J1, would be appreciated by Steve’s family.
