Stewart was born in Winnipeg, Sunday, July 10, 1927. He was raised in the Herb Lake area. Stewart married the love of his life, Ellen Fisher, November 2, 1956 and moved to Snow Lake. Together they were blessed with a daughter and three sons. Stewart’s great joy in life was his family. He enjoyed reminiscing and telling the stories of growing up in the bush to his children, grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Stewart loved to be in the bush picking berries, being out fishing, hunting and working in his garden. Stewart passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer, Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the Snow Lake Health Center, Snow Lake, Manitoba, at the age of 88 years. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Ellen; daughter Barbara (Bill) Sibley; sons Fred (Jesiane), Bob (Greg) and Tom (Michelle); grandchildren Kristopher and Jason Blake, Jessica Bridgeman, Allie, Douglas, Billy Sibley, Karen Macedo, Morgan (Stanley) Herring; and numerous extended family members. In keeping with family wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Stewart’s life was held Friday, September 3, 2015, 2:00 pm, at the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall, Snow Lake, Manitoba, with Clarence Fisher presiding. Ushers were Maurice Nogier and Jim Corman. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Michelle Bridgeman. Eulogy was delivered by Albert Fisher and Earl Fisher. Message from the grandchildren was read by Jason Blake. Elks Tribute was given by Brenda Forsyth-Flamand. Following the interment prayers at Brookside Cemetery, Snow Lake, a reception was held for family and friends at the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall. The Elks Club was a very big part of Stewart’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Snow Lake Elks Club, c/o Box 278, Snow Lake, Manitoba, R0B 1M0, in memory of Stewart, would be greatly appreciated by his family.
