Obituary
Tena was born Thursday, February 6, 1930 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. Tena met Fred Chernenkoff and they were married March 5, 1951 in Kamsack. Fred worked for the Canadian National Railways and in 1955 they moved to The Pas where they spent the rest of their lives. Tena worked at St. Paul’s Residence as a nurse’s aid and her and Fred also owned the Royal Confectionary. After Fred’s passing, she sold the business and retired. Later she lived with Susan until entering St. Paul’s, March 8, 2007. Tena enjoyed berry picking, gardening, crocheting, travelling, playing cards and nature. Her favourite time of day was dawn and dusk. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Tena was a devoted wife, supportive and loving mother, wonderful grandmother, best friend and mentor to many more. Tena passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, age 79 years. Tena will be missed by her daughters Kathy (Ken), Susan (Don), Cindy (Bob); son-in-law Neil Ducharme; grandsons Neil, Michael, David, Paul, Joey; great grandchildren Ethan Lajambe, Keith Lajambe, Zeke Ducharme, Brendon Seagris, Natasha Seagris, Kevin Seagris; sisters Sarah Mable Rabkin, Florence Rauckman; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Tena was predeceased by her husband Fred Chernenkoff March 19, 1986; mother Hazel and father William Kolesnikoff; brothers-in-law Dr. Fred Rabkin and Glen Rauckman. Prayers and visitation were held Monday, July 20, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba. The funeral service for Tena was held Tuesday, July 21, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, with Rev. Grahme Spear presiding. Music ministry was provided by Isobel Halcrow. Thanksgiving for Tena’s life was presented by Dori Gelowitz. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. Active Pallbearers were David Seagris, Michael Ducharme, Eric Sanderson, Paul Seagris, Joey Chernenkoff, Derek Yakielashek. Honorary Pallbearers were all those whose lives Tena touched. If friends so desire, donations to the Christ Church Anglican Memorial Fund, Box 125, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K3 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6 would be appreciated by Tena’s family.
