Valeriano Basso

It is with much sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Valeriano Basso, also known to his grandchildren as Grandpa Val, Friday May 24, 2013, while resting peacefully in the comfort of his home in The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 77 years. Grandpa Val leaves to mourn his passing his son Desi; daughter-in-law Dina; and grandchildren Destanee and Mitchell (Billy) Ducharme. He also leaves his step-children Terry, Mitchell, Tammy, Lana, Deanna, Martin Ducharme. Grandpa Val was predeceased by his long time love Margaret Doris Ducharme; two step children Glen Ducharme, Arlene Runions; and brother Walter Basso. Grandpa Val was born Monday, June 3, 1935 in Italy and grew up in Vicenza, Italy. Grandpa Val immigrated to Canada with his brother Walter in 1960. They landed in Thunder Bay, Ontario where they worked together in the logging factory in Fort William. Grandpa Val then relocated to Manitoba where he took work with the Moose Lake Logging Company for over 25 years as a Skidder Operator. Grandpa Val met his love Margaret Doris Ducharme (nee Engen) in The Pas, Manitoba and together raised his son Desi Ducharme and took on the role of step-father to Margaret’s other children from a previous marriage. Grandpa was known to family and friends as all-around mechanic. Grandpa loved working on his 1988 Ford Pick Up Truck. Grandpa Val, you will remain forever in our hearts. Paul Sodtke Memories of The Heart Desi Ducharme Destanee Ducharme In keeping with Val's wishes, cremation followed and a private family interment was held at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. HONORARY PALLBEARER All Val’s Family and Friends If friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7, would be appreciated by Val’s family. The family would like to thank The Pas Regional Health Centre for their excellent care of Grandpa Val. Special thanks to Hemauer Funeral Home for their assistance at this difficult time. We would also like to thank all of our family, friends, and OCN Chief and Council for all their donations and support.
