Valerie White Obituary

It is with great sadness that Valerie’s family announces her sudden passing Monday, February 14, 2011 at the age of 59 years. Predeceased by her mother Mary, Valerie leaves to mourn her father Donald; daughter Jennifer (Dwight), Jennifer’s father John; grandchildren Cordelia, Joshua, Christopher and D’Anna. Valerie will be greatly missed by her siblings, Gerald (Sandra), Kathryn, Robert (Bonnie), Dennis, Maureen (Bruce) and Susan (Greg); numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Valerie was born Saturday, December 8, 1951 in Churchill, Manitoba and lived most of her life in The Pas. She married in 1973 and continued to work at the Mill. Her daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1977 and Valerie kept busy with school activities, baking and travels to see her parents in B.C.. As the eldest of seven children, Valerie was a natural leader. She excelled in school and won numerous awards. She was popular, outgoing and social and until death, these traits defined her. Whether it was organizing a family reunion, taking her younger sisters to the bakery for butter tarts or arranging a special present for a grandchild’s party, Valerie was always generous with her time and energy. She truly loved the Trappers’ Festival and would attend as many functions as possible. She enjoyed dancing and music and would participate at every opportunity with a big smile on her face. Illness at times faded the smile but inevitably, it would return. With these qualities Valerie made many friends over the years and she will be truly missed. In keeping with Valerie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance was held Monday, February 21, 2011, 11:00 am at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Flute songs for Grandma were performed by Val’s granddaughter Cordelia. Caroline Denby also sang “We Will Meet Again”. Memories of the heart were shared by Jennifer and Dwight Luce and Rob White. Following the service, family and friends gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall for a time of fellowship and refreshment. If friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7, would be appreciated by Valerie’s family.
