William Spencer Obituary

Bill passed away unexpectedly after a brief battle with cancer on the morning of Monday, June 15, 2015 with his family by his side, at the Swan Valley Hospital, Swan River, Manitoba. He is predeceased by his father John Spencer; mother Gertrude Spencer (nee French); sister Lorna Butt. He is survived by his wife Bonita; daughter Tanya (Billy); son Billy (Lyndsy); sisters Eileen (Walt), Glenys (George); grandchildren Baile, Colbe, Natoshia, Kaycee and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was born Monday, March 8, 1954 in St. John’s Newfoundland. He grew up in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland until at the age of 18 when he was accepted into the RCMP in 1972. Upon completion of his training in 1973 he started his career as an RCMP officer in Flin Flon, MB. He eventually transferred to Snow Lake and then The Pas where he met and fell in love with his now wife Bonita. They were married in Newfoundland in April of 1979. They went on to have two children which they raised in various postings in Manitoba. In 2009 Bill and Bonnie bought a convenience business in The Pas (Spencer’s Variety Store). It was also in 2009 that Bill retired from the RCMP with 36 years of service. In 2012 Bill and Bonnie decided to sell the business and enjoy retirement. They relocated to Swan River in 2012 where he resided until his passing. Bill enjoyed trapping, camping, fishing, golfing, spending time tending to his garden and most importantly he enjoyed his grandchildren. Bill was a loving, caring, hardworking man. He was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, grandfather and uncle. He is and will be greatly missed by many. In keeping with family wishes, cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Bill’s life was held Friday, June 19th, at 2:00 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas, Manitoba, with Major Debbie Allen presiding. Following the service, a reception was held for family and friends at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas, Manitoba. If friends so desire, donations to the CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E OV9 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6, would be appreciated by Bill’s family.
