It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don on September 18, 2017 at the age of 83. Don passed away peacefully with loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lizette. His daughter Lorelei (Ron), his son in law Larry and his grandchildren, Christopher(Danielle), Renee(David), Caralyn (Robert), Ryan (Wendy), Marlene (Troy), Ronda (Martin), Jaime (Michael) and Stacie (David) and his 15 great grandchildren, Harley, Abigail, James, Alexandra, Brooke, Colin, Ethan, Paige, Ava, Kaylah, Kate, Brielle, Damon, Reed and Lincoln. He will also be missed by his sister, Wilma (John), his sisters in law, Roselle and Marietta (Grant) He was predeceased by his parents William and Ruby, his daughters Cherie and Darlene, his son in law Robert, his brother Lorne and his sister in law Marguerite and his brother in law Guy. Don was born in Winnipeg, and had various jobs in his early years. Then he spent the next 31 years with Modern Dairies/Beatrice here in Winnipeg and Flin Flon, Mb. While in Flin Flon, Don was an active member of the community. His family remembers listening to him announce the bingo numbers over the radio for the Rotary Club, fishing trips, and the many adventures at the cabin. After his retirement, Don enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas with Lizette. Often, his daughters and son in laws joined them. He was very involved with his family and attended their many celebrations. Don instilled the importance of family traditions to his entire family. Rissole making at Christmas was one of the many events he presided over. Don’s pride for his family was obvious to anyone who visited as he spoke fondly of all of them. Don’s passion for sports started very young. He played basketball, hockey, bowling, and golfed until his illness prevented him from participating. He had season tickets to the Winnipeg Jets while they were in the WHA and he attended his final Jets game when they returned to Winnipeg in 2011. Don will be remembered as a supporting father and grandfather who is leaving behind a legacy of loving individuals who will miss him dearly. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11 am. A private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.
