Ike Gauvin, 85, of Stittsville, Ontario, widower of the late Rosemary Gauvin (Harris), passed away on June 28, 2010 at his residence at Granite Ridge in Stittsville. He was born in Dieppe, where he lived with his parents and 10 siblings. He is survived by two brothers Gerard (Pete) Gauvin of Moncton, NB and Armand of Lachine, Que. He was predeceased by brothers, Camille, Thomas (Laura), Raymond(Jean); sisters Edna (Dick Boucher), Rachel (Edgar LeBlanc), Stella (Jos Bourgeois), Jeanita(Alphee Cormier, Minnie (Edgar Thibodeau). He is also survived by his three children, Gary (Colleen Showler) of Rockwall, TX, Gail of Mountain View, CA, and Glen (Kathleen Beattie) of Scottsdale, AZ. He was the loving Grandpa to five grandchildren: Chris (Rosemary Yang), Adam, Alex, Ryan and Krystal. Ike joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and soon received his air gunner's wings. In 1944 he trained overseas in Yorkshire, England and became a member of the No. 6 Canadian Bomber Group 415 Squadron. He served as a flight sergeant on a Halifax bomber crew until the end of the war. After the war, he made his way to Ottawa where he met Rosemary. Ike was a chartered member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Stittsville. Ike will be remembered fondly for his love of golfing, cribbage, card games, his willingness to always help a friend and for never missing the opportunity to spin a story, tell a joke and share a laugh. He is resting at Kelly's Funeral Home in Kanata. A mass in Stittsville will be held on Saturday, July 3 at 11am. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Ike's name.
