SCHOUTEN, JOHN GERARD - 1926 - 2011 - John Schouten of New Canaan, NB passed away peacefully on October 6th at the Moncton Hospital in his 85th year. Born in Amsterdam, Holland on December 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Michael and Christina (Galjee) Schouten. John immigrated to Canada in 1952 with the love of his life, Georgette (vanderZon) Schouten. A willingness to create a better life in his new country led him to the retail business with Kresge/Kmart. The next move was to Kmart in Dartmouth, NS from where he retired in 1985 after 33 years. John and Georgette were always up for a challenge and an adventure. They had vision and loved to renovate and decorate all their homes. They passed this love on to their four children. John is survived by Monica Schouten (Dave Thomas), St. Catherine's, Ont., Helen Clarke (Robert) of New Canaan, NB, Michael Schouten (MaryJanet), Edmonton, Alta., Nicole Marks (James), Ship Harbour, NS; grandchildren Matthew (Gillian) and Patrick Clarke, Jennifer and Rebecca Thomas, Amanda and Kate Schouten, Emma Marks; great grandchildren Julia and Lila Clarke.
