LAVIGNE, J. W. BENOIT (BEN) - John Wilfred Benoit (Ben) Lavigne, 92, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital with his family at his side, on Thursday, October 6, 2011, following a lengthy illness. Born January 1, 1919 in Robertville, NB, he was the son of the late David and Claire (Haché) Lavigne. A retired electrical contractor, Ben was the owner and operator of Tri Electric Ltd. in Moncton. He was a member of the Beauséjour Curling Club, The Moncton Golf and Country Club, Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch No. 6, United Commercial Travelers and Christ-Roi Golden Age Club. A veteran of W.W. 2, he served overseas in England, North Africa, Italy, France and Holland with the 8th Princess Louise's Hussars. He is survived by Lorine (Lavigne) Lavigne, his wife of 64 years; five children: Allen, James (Debbie) and Denise Bowser (Bob), all of Moncton, Marc (Susan) of St. Catharines, ON, and Paul (Anette) of Cambridge, ON; seven grandchildren: Christine, Kim, Erin, Jessica, Amy, Angela and Jason; five great-grandchildren: Lauren, Brooklyn, Liam, Jade and Jackson; two sisters: Cecile Young (Vernon) and Rita Legacy (Lawrence), both of Bathurst; five brothers: Aurele (Lorette) and Norman (Jeannette), both of Moncton, Arthur of North Tatamagouche, NS, John (Cathy) of Fredericton and Edgar (Lillian) of Bathurst. He is also predeceased by a brother, Henry (Theresa), and a sister, Corinne Leger (Ernest). The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours: Friday, October 14, 2011 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 9 a.m. until time of departure (9:45). The funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ-Roi R.C. Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton, on Saturday October 15, 2011 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception at Christ-Roi Golden Age Club. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. Veterans of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service of remembrance at 3:50 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
