GELDART, WYNONA "WYN" - Wynona “Wyn” Bernice (nee Merrithew) Geldart, 87, of Monarch Hall, Riverview, and formerly of Petitcodiac, passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, May 13, 2011. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Lena (nee Stairs) Merrithew. Wyn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Moncton, and the Petitcodiac Baptist Church; she was a Past Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and Past Matron of Regina Chapter Order of Eastern Star; she was a member of the Home and School Association and the N.B. Teacher’s Association. She spent most of her early years in Saint John, graduating from McAdam High School and attended Provincial Normal College 1940-1941. She taught school at Nackawic, Dorchester, Saint John, and the last 26 years in Petitcodiac. She retired in 1981 after 35 years of teaching. Wyn is survived by her brother, Douglas Merrithew (Rhoda) of Garnett Settlement, NB; sisters-in-law, Lorna Merrithew of Calabogie, ON, and Mary Merrithew of Saint John, NB; brother-in-law, Jim McLean of St. George, NB; her very special niece, Kathy Connors (Patrick); her dear friends, Agnes & Edwin Smith; as well as by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Wyn was predeceased by her husband, Elton, who passed away in 1998; her sister, Anna McLean; her brothers: Major Haldene Merrithew, Gerald Merrithew and his wife Bobbie, and Donald Merrithew. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM; the funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. J. Richard Jackson presiding, all in Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac. There will be a reception at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service. Interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.
