MICHAEL ERWIN SHANNON FEBRUARY 16, 1950 – JUNE 14, 2020 Mike passed away peacefully on June 14, 2020, at the Central NFLD Regional Hospital Centre at 70 years of age. Mike was originally born in Powassan, ON, but grew up in Toronto. He was the oldest of eight children and is predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Evelyn Shannon. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Barb of 48 years; sons: Michael and Jason (Joyce), daughter Jennifer; grandchildren: Jordan, Isaiah, Layla and Mya; brothers: Donny, Terry, Dougie; sisters: Diane, Debbie, Donna (Carl), Robin (James). He is also mourned by numerous in-laws and other family and his special friends, Brian and Dianne Benson, and Pastor Ed Grant. Due to the loss of his father at a very young age, Mike assumed a leadership role in the family. He left school early to help provide for his family. This set a pattern of an excellent work ethic that produced in Mike a wonderful provider for his family. Michael retired from Reimer’s Trucking and finishing a successful as an exceptionally skilled driver who accomplished two million miles of accident-free driving. Mike was also an avid lover of sports, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. He also passed this love of sports to his boys and he also faithfully took Jennifer to her figure skating lessons, in the early days. His wife, children and grandchildren knew him as a strong & stalwart man. All his grandchildren loved him; however, Layla and Mya held a special place, as he cared for them like a father, till the day of his passing. Pastor Greg Patey will conduct a private family service at the Bishop’s Falls Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Michael Goodyear and Ryan Peddle of Central Funeral Homes. The family wishes to extend thanks & appreciation to each and every one that helped in any way during this time of bereavement.
