Elson, Marion Gertrude
Passed away peacefully after her battle with dementia, in the presence of her son Peter and life-long friend Marjorie Frampton at the Hoyles-Escasonia Complex in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, at 12:40 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2013, three days before her 81st birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Elson, father Walter Benson, mother Melita Benson, sister Nancy Preston, and grandson L.B. Elson. Marion was survived by her three beloved sons Philip (and wife Sandy), Kenny, and Peter, brother Don Benson, sisters Rhoda Sutton, Emma Horne, and Margaret Vey and six grandchildren. Marion was born in Hillview, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Canada and raised her three sons in Pekin, Illinois; West Palm Beach and Homosassa Springs, Florida. She was a proud, strong and loving mother, sister, and friend who left a legacy of friends and loved ones wherever she lived. Like every good Newfie, she longed for home and was able to spend the final six years of her life in St. John’s in the loving care of her sister Margaret and husband Harvey Vey and their family. Visitation will be held at the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 2 – 4 pm with a cremation and final burial in Hillview.
