SIMMS George Roy November 25, 1929 – May 10, 2017 It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Roy Simms announce his passing at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at the age of 87 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories Mavis Vatcher (Robert) of Hammonds Plains, NS; Bernice Collette (Joe Harlock) of Edmonton, AB; and their mother Greta Hart Simms of Halifax, NS; grandchildren Warren Vatcher (Ally), Kayte Samson (Chris), Brandi Collette (Renato), Heather Collette (Dave), great-grandchildren Payton Samson, Emmett Samson, Lucy Vatcher, Selena Delgado and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Ned Simms and sister Rita Harnett. After a stint in the Navy, Roy worked as a stationary engineer in Labrador City at the Hospital (CWJM) and then at IOC. He retired to Lewisporte and Gander in 2002. Thanks to all the staff at Nightingale Manor for the excellent care given to “George“ over the past 11 years. In keeping with Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, 60 Roe Avenue on Saturday May 13, 2017 between 2-4 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donation in Roy’s memory may be made to the Lung Association.
