Dennis Vincent Springdale, Newfoundland and Labrador Obituary

Dennis Vincent

Dennis Melvin Willie Vincent, March 3, 1956 – December 19, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dennis at the age of 63 after a short battle with cancer. Dennis was born in Triton, Newfoundland and resided in Pilley’s Island. He was predeceased by his father in 2013, his mother in 2007 and grandson William. Dennis leaves behind his wife Karen of 44 years as well as his two children David (Jill) and Garry (Jennifer). Some of the very bright lights in his life were his grandchildren – Alexander, Jeffery, Marx, Izabella and Jacob. Dennis also leaves to mourn three sisters, six brothers, nephews, nieces and many friends and extended family. Dennis grew up in Triton and moved to Pilley’s Island after his marriage to Karen in 1975. It was here that he raised his sons. Dennis was an undeniably hard worker. He started his career as an educator, teaching for 29 years at Dorset Collegiate. “Mr. Vincent was my favourite teacher” is often heard from his past students. Dennis was an entrepreneur at heart right from a young child. He always had a ‘side job’, often known to go from school to a building project. These building projects became his full-time occupation upon his retirement from education. Dennis worked all over Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. He was a ‘Pro’ at the difficult building jobs that other builders were hesitant to tackle – from the steeples of a church, to jacking up houses and building roofs of every sort. The job that he was most committed to was that of Father. David and Garry are losing their best buddy and a trusted advisor in EVERY area of life. Dennis was a great community volunteer. He served several terms on the town council and as Mayor of Pilley’s Island and he chaired the Green Bay Waste Management Committee. A family celebration of Dennis’ life will be held in August, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Dennis to a charity of your choosing. Thank you to Amy Wiseman, his continuing care nurse as well as the Pallative Care Team.
